Ինչպես հաղորդվում է, բախումը տեղի է ունեցել, երբ արմատականները փորձել են վրան տեղափոխել Մայդան և այնտեղ շտաբ ստեղծել Ուկրաինայի Պաշտպանության օրվա տոնակատարության առթիվ: Ոստիկանությունն արցունքաբեր գազ և մահակներ է կիրառել: Տուժածների մասին դեռևս տեղեկություն չի ստացվել:
Ավելի վաղ արմատականները ծեծկռտուք էին սարքել ոստիկանության հետ Մարիինյան այգում: Մի քանի տասնյակ մարդիկ այնտեղ էին եկել աստիճաններով և մուրճերով, որպեսզի քանդեն գեներալ Վատունինի հուշարձանը: Հարյուրավոր ոստիկաններ շրջափակել էին հուշարձանը՝ խանգարելով ազգայնականներին, ինչի արդյունքում կռիվ էր ծագել, որն առանց տուժածների է ավարտվել:
Այսօր Ուկրաինայում նշվում է երկրի Պաշտպանության օրը, որը նախագահ Պյոտր Պորոշենկոն սահմանել է 2014 թվականին՝ փետրվարի 23-ին նշվող Հայրենիքի պաշտպանության օրվա փոխարեն:
