«Ժամանակ» թերթը գրում է. «Օրերս Հայաստան-ԱՄՆ միջխորհրդարանական բարեկամական խմբում ԱՄՆ պետդեպի ՀՀ հարցերով պատասխանատու Թեդ Մեսսիի հետ հանդիպման ընթացքում, ինչպես մեզ հայտնեցին մասնակցած պատգամավորները, ՀԱԿ խմբակցության ղեկավար Լեւոն Զուրաբյանը փորձել է այս դեպքում էլ ԱՄՆ-ին տղա բերել ՀՀ իշխանությունների վրա՝ առաջարկելով, որ ԱՄՆ իշխանությունները ճնշում գործադրեն ՀՀ վրա երկրում ժողովրդավարական բարեփոխումներ իրականացնելու համար:
Հանդիպմանը ներկա պատգամավորները վստահեցնում են, որ հանդիպման ամենահետաքրքիր մասը եղել է ՀԱԿ խմբակցության ղեկավար Լեւոն Զուրաբյանի եւ «Ազատ դեմոկրատներ» կուսակցության նախագահ Խաչատուր Քոքոբելյանի ընդհարումը:
Լեւոն Զուրաբյանը մտածելով, որ Պետդեպարտամենտի ներկայացուցիչն անտեղյակ է, թե Հայաստանի քաղաքական ուժերը ինչ դիրքորոշում ունեն տարբեր արտաքին քաղաքական հարցերի վերաբերյալ, փորձել է այս դեպքում էլ ԱՄՆ-ից տղա բերել Հայաստանի իշխանությունների վրա: Նա հայտարարել է, որ Հայաստանի հիմնական խնդիրը կոռուպցիան է, արդար ընտրական համակարգի բացակայությունը եւ մոնոպոլիանորի գոյությունը տնտեսության մեջ:
Զուրաբյանի խոսքը շաքարով կտրել է Խաչատուր Քոքոբելյանը եւ ասել, որ ինքը թերեւս համաձայներ Լեւոն Զուրաբյանի բնորոշումների հետ, եթե նա չլիներ ԵՏՄ երդվյալ կողմնակիցներից մեկը, մի միություն, որտեղ նշված արատները համակարգային բնույթ են կրում:
Լեւոն Զուրաբյանը Քոքոբելյանին անվանել է «ստախոս», ասել է, որ ինքը ԵՏՄ երդվյալ նվիրյալ չէ, որ իրենք կողմնակից էին Հայաստանի անդամակցությանը ԵՏՄ-ին բացառապես անվտանգության նկատառումներից ելնելով: Քոքոբելյանը, բնականաբար, հիշեցրել է, որ ԵՏՄ-ն ռազմաքաղաքական դաշինք չէ, այլ ընդամենը տնտեսական միություն, եւ որ այդ միության ռուս ներկայացուցիչներն են հայտարարել, որ այդ միությունը չի կարող անվտանգության հետ կապված խնդիրներ լուծել:
Բանավեճը բավական թեժ ընթացք է ստացել այն անստիճան, որ թարգմանչուհին փորձել է իր թարգմանությամբ մեղմել գնահատականներն ու մեղադրանքները, սակայն Պետդեպարտամենտի ներկայացուցիչ Թեդ Մեսսին ներկաների համար անսպասելի հայերենով հայտարարել է, որ ինքն ամեն ինչ հասկանում է, որ իր կինը հայուհի է եւ ինքը տիրապետում է հայերենին»:
