Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանը կարող է ընդունել Իլ-76 բեռնատար, Airbus 320 և 321, Boeing 337 և SuperJet մարդատար ինքնաթիռներ: Օդանավակայանի վազքուղին ներկայում 2270 մետր է, լայնությունը` 45 մետր` նախկին 37 մետրի փոխարեն: Այս մասին հատարարեց ԼՂՀ կառավարությանն առընթեր քաղաքացիական ավիացիայի վարչության նախկին պետ Դմիտրի Ադբաշյանը: Նա պարզաբանեց, որ խորհրդային ժամանակներում օդանավակայանը սպասարկո ւմ էր օրական 8-10 չվերթ, իսկ պատերազմի ժամանակ` 20-25: Ադբաշյանը մանրամասնեց, որ նախկինում վազքուղին այնպես էր կառուցված, որ կտրուկ վայրէջքից հետո ինքնաթիռները մեծացնում էին արագությունը, սակայն վազքուղու ծայրամասերում գտնվող բլուրները պայթեցվել են, հարթացվել և վազքուղու թեքությունը կարգավորված է:
Անդրադառնալով օդանավակայանի վերակառուցման աշխատանքներին` Ադբաշյանը նշեց, որ մինչև վերակառուցումը ռուսական «Աերոպրոյեկտ» կազմակերպությունը եզրակացրել էր, որ Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանը չի կարող ինքնաթիռներ սպասարկել նավիգացիոն սարքերով, սակայն վերակառուցման աշխատանքների ընթացքում տեղադրվել են նավիգացիոն սարքեր, որոնցով թռիչքները կարող են կառավարվել վատ եղանակային պայմաններում և գիշերը: «Ներկայում ԼՂՀ և Հայաստանի նավիգացիոն համակարգերը միասնական են, ներառում են Գյումրիի, Երևանի և Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանները, և, օրիÕ �ակ, Երևանի թռիչքի կարգաբերողը կարող է կառավարել Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանի թռիչքները»,- ասաց նա:
Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանն ունի հնարավորություն` ընդունելու բոլոր ինքնաթիռները, որոնք Ռուսաստանի օդատիեզերական ուժերը կիրառում են Սիրիայում հակաահաբեկչական գործողությունների ժամանակ: Պատասխանելով «Արմենպրես»-ի թղթակցի հարցին` Ադբաշյանը պարզաբանեց, որ Ստեփանակերտի օդանավակայանի դիրքը հարմար է այդ նպատակով օգտագործելու համար:
Ադբաշյանը հրաժարվեց պատասխանել օդանավակայանը Ռուսաստանի հակաահաբեկչական գործողություններին տրամադրելու վերաբերյալ քաղաքական հարցերի:
Նոյեմբերի 12-ին Մոսկվայում կայացած ասուլիսում ԼՂՀ Նախագահ Բակո Սահակյանը, ըստ «Ռեգնում» գործակալության, հայտարարել էր, որ Ստեփանակերտիօդանավակայանը կարող է օգտագործվել ՌԴ օդատիեզերական ուժերի կողմից Սիրիայում իրականացվող հակաահաբեկչական գործողությունում։ Նա նշել էր, որՍտեփանակերտի օդանավակայանի շահագործման հանձնելուց հետո Լեռնային Ղարաբաղը պատրաստ է Ռուսաստանի հետ քննարկել այդ ենթակառուցվածքիօգտագործման հարցում համագործակցությունը:
