Այս ձուկը բուծում են Մեկոնգ գետում, որը աշխարհի ամենաաղտոտված գետերից է: Այս գետում ուղղակի վխտում են բակտերիաները և այդ ձուկը ապրում ու բազմանում է այդ ջրում: Գետի ջուրը աղտոտված է նաև հակաբիոտիկներով քիմիկատներով, հորմոններով: Պանգասիուսի միսը պարունակում է մեծ քանակությամբ ծանր մետաղներ, քրոլատներ և իզոմերներ:
Այս ձուկը սնվում է բառի բուն իմաստով աղբով: Ձկան չափերը մեծացնելու համար այն հագեցնում են հակաբիոտիկներով և հորմոններով:
Բացի այդ, պանգասիուս ձուկը չի պարունակում ոչ մի տեսակ վիտամին, ոչ միկրոտարրեր և ոչ էլ օմեգա -3 ճարպաթթու:
