Երկիր մոլորակի ամենաաղի ջրամբարը Իսրայելում գտնվող Մեռյալ ծովն է:

Իրականում այդպես չէ:

Ամենաաղի ջրամբարը Անտարկտիդայի հյուսիս-արևել յան հատվածում՝ Չոր հարթավայրեր կոչվող տարածքում գտնվող ԴոնԺուան լիճն է: Այն հայտնագործվել է 1961 թվականին՝ ամերիկյան ռազմածովային ուժերի ուղղաթիռի երկու օդաչուների կողմից, որոնց անուններից էլ ստացել է իր անունը: Հայտնագործման ժամանակ ջրի ջերմաստիճանը -30 0C էր, բայց ջուրը սառած չէր: Լճի մակերեսը 0,25 քառ. կմ է, խորությունը՝ 0,3 կմ: Ասենք, որ եթե համաշխարհային օվկիանոսում աղի պարունակությունը (հիմնական մասով՝ կալցիումի քլորիդ) կազմում է 3,38 %, Մեռյալ ծովում՝ 34,7 %, ապա Դոն-Ժուանում այն 40,2% է:

Հավանաբար, սա ամենահետաքրքիր լիճն է երկրագնդի վրա: Հաշվի առնելով այն հանգամանքը, որ Չոր հարթավայրերը ամենաչոր կլիմա ունեցող վայրն է (այստեղ տեղումներ չեն լինում), միայն զարմանալ կարելի է, որ այդտեղ լիճ կա: Իրականում ջուրը լճում հավաքվել է ընդերքից քիչ-քիչ մակերևույթ դուրս գալով և գոլորշիացման հետևանքով աստիճանաբար աղիանալով:

Պարզվել է, որ Դոն-Ժուանը պարունակում է զգալի քանակությամբ լուծված ազոտի օքսիդ (այս գազը կոչվում է «ուրախացնող գազ» և օգտագործվում է նարկոզի համար) : 

Հետաքրքիրն այն է, որ այն առաջացել է ոչ օրգանական նյութերից՝ լճի պատերի ապարների հետ աղի ջրի փոխազդեցությունից: Առաջ կարծում էին, որ ազոտի օքսիդը առաջանում է միայն օրգանական նյութերից:

Չնայած Դոն-Ժուանի ջրի աղիությանը և ցուրտ եղանակին, պարզվում է՝ լճում կյանք կա. իհարկե՝ ոչ ձկներ: Այստեղ աճում են կապտականաչ ջրիմուռներ, որոնցով էլ հենց սնվում են բակտերիաները՝ հելիկոբակտերիաները: Վերջիններս համարվում են երկրագնդի ամենահին բնակիչներից, սրանք էքստրեմալ պայմաններում ապրող օրգանիզմներ են: Հայտնի են նաև նրանով, որ կարողանում են «կարկատել» և վերականգնել աղի ջրից հաճախ վնասվող իրենց ԴՆԹ-ն: Եթե մարդը կարողանա օգտագործել հելիկոբակտերիաների այս հատկությունը, ապա մի շարք անբուժելի համարվող հիվանդություններ կբուժվեն:

Համարվում է, որ եթե Մարսի վրա ջուր հայտնաբերվի, ապա այն կլինի Դոն-Ժուան լճի տեսքով՝ նույնքան աղի:
