Նա մահացավ 23 տարեկանում, բայց փրկեց 360 մարդ և իր մարմնով ծածկեց 3 երեխայի

Ահաբեկիչները գրավեցին ամերիկյան Pan American ավիրաընկերությանը պատկանող ինքնաթիռը: Եթե չլիներ բորտուղեկցորդուհի Նիրջա Բհանոտի խիզախությունը՝ կմահանային մի քանի հարյուր մարդ: Զոհելով իրեն, աղջիկը փրկեց ուրիշներին…
Նիրջան ծնվել է 1963թ. սեպտեմբերի 7-ին, Հնդկաստանի Չանդիգար քաղաքում: Նրա հայրը լրագրող էր: Հոր աշխատանքի բերումով ընտանիքը տեղափոխվում է Մումբայ (այն ժամանակ Բոմբեյ): Այստեղ աղջիկն ավարտում է միջնակարգ դպրոցը:
16 տարեկանում ապագա հերոսուհին սկսում է աշխատել որպես մոդել՝ ներկայացնելով շատ հանրահայտ բրենդեր: 1985թ. մարտին ծնողները նրան ամուսնացնում են: Ինչպես դա սովորաբար տեղի է ունենում Հնդկաստանում՝ ըստ պայմանավորվածության: Սակայն ամուսինը մանրախնդիր մարդ է պարզվում՝ նրան դուր չի գալիս օժիտը և 2 ամիս անց նա կնոջը ետ է վերադարձնում:
Անհաջող ամուսնությունը Նիրջային բերեց Pan American-ի գրասենյակ: Նա հաջողությամբ անցավ նախնական ընտրությունը և ստացավ ավագ բորտուղեկցորդուհու պաշտոնը:
Այդ չարաբաստիկ օրը Բհանոտը սպասարկում էր РА 73 չվերթի ուղևորներին: Ինքնաթիռը սկսեց թռիչքը Մումբայից և 5:00-ին վայրէջք կատարեց Կարաչի: Չորս ծայրահեղական իսլամիստներ ներխուժեցին բորտ և պատանդ վերցրեցին ուղևորներին և ինքաթիռի անձնակազմին:
Նիրջան անմիջապես առանձնացավ իր ռեակցիայի արագությամբ՝ նա անմիջապես զգուշացրեց օդաչուներին, իսկ վերջիներս փախան պահեստային դռնով:
Հետո երիտասարդ աղջիկը ականատես եղավ սարսափելի հաշվեհարդարի: Ահաբեկիչները կրակում էին յուրաքանչյուրի վրա, ով պարզվում էր, որ ամերիացի է: Հետո նրանք պահանջում են անձագրերը, որպեսզի ստուգեն, արդյո՞ք որևէ ամերիացի դեռևս կենդանի է, թե ոչ: Նիրջան կրկին առանձնանում է՝ նա թաքցնում է փաստաթղթերը աղբի մեջ: Շնորհիվ նրա խիզախ քայլի՝ այլևս ոչ մեկին չեն սպանում:
Երբ ինքնաթիռի վրա սկսեցին գրոհել պակիստանյան ոստիկանությունը, Բհանոտը, օգտվելով խառնաշփոթից՝ էվակուացնում է բոլոր ուղևորներին: Նրան ետ չէին պահում կողքով թռչող գնդակներն ու նռնակների պայթունները: Պատրաստվելով լքել ինքնաթիռը՝ բորտուղեկցորդուհին ետ է շրջվում և տեսնում երեք երեխայի, ովքեր թաքնվել էին նստարանի տակ և վախենում էին դուրս գալ:
Աղջիկը շտապում է նրանց մոտ: Ցավոք նրան նկատում են ահաբեկիչները և կրակ բացում: Խիզախ Նիրջան իր մարմնով ծածկում է երեխաներին: Աղջկան մահացու վիրավորում են, բայց նա միևնույն է էվակուացնում է բոլոր ուղևորներին, իսկ դրանից հետո մահանում…
Ինչպես հայտնի է, փրկված տղաներից մեկը հետագայում մեծանալով՝ դառնում է օդաչու:
Նիրջա Բհանոտին հետմահու շնորհում են Աշոկա Չակրայի շքանշանով՝ հնդկական խիզախության բարձրագույն պարգևով: Աղջիկը ամենաերիտասարդն է բոլոր նրանցից՝ ով արժանացել է այդ պարգևին:
