Ծննդյան տոնակատարության ամենաուրախ պահերից է, երբ հոբելյարը փչում է տորթի մոմերը:  Դա նաև գեղեցիկ պահ է, որովհետև այդ պահին  երազանք են պահում: Բայց որտեղի՞ց է գալիս այդ սովորությունը: Սովորաբար, տոնական ավանդույթները սկիզբ են առնում հին ծիսակարգերից։

Այնուամենայնիվ, ինչո՞ւ են մարդիկ ծննդյան օրը տորթի վրա շարված մոմերը փչում և երազանք պահում:  Այդ ավանդույթը հին ու խորը արմատներ ունի:

Հին հույները Արտեմիդա աստվածուհուն, որը որսորդության և լուսնի աստվածուհին էր,  նվիրված տոնակատարությունների ժամանակ պատրաստում էին մեծ  տորթ, այդ տորթի վրա շարում էին մոմեր և այն թողում էին տաճարում՝ որպես նվեր աստվածուհուն։ Նրանք հավատում էին, որ ծուխն իրենց աղոթքները կհասցնի աստվածներին։

18-րդ դարում Գերմանիայում երեխաների ծննդյան օրը  մոմեր էին վառում։ Մոմերը վառ էին մնում օրվա ընթացքում։ Դրանք շարում էին  Տորթի վրա որոնց թիվը մեկով շատ էր երեխայի տարիքից, քանի որ մեկ հավելյալ մոմը խորհրդանշում էր գալիք տարին և ապագան:  Հոբելյարը մոմերը փչում էր երեկոյան և երազանք էր պահում։  Հավատում էին, որ օդ բարձրացող ծուխը ցանկությունը կփոխանցի Աստծուն։
