Մենք գիտենք, որ...

Նապաստակը վախկոտ կենդանի է, անգամ մարդուն բնորոշելու ժողովրդական խոսք կա՝ նապաստակի նման վախկոտ։ Իսկ ահա գայլերը համարվում են համարձակ և խիզախ կենդանիներ։

Իրականում այնքան էլ այդպես չէ։

Սկզբի համար նշենք, որ կենդանիների դեպքում սխալ է նրանց վախկոտ կամ անվախ անվանել։ Իրականում ցանկացած կենդանի ունի ինքնապաշտպանական բնազդ ու զգուշավորություն, և ինչքան շատ թշնամի ունի այդ կենդանին, այնքան նա զգուշավոր է կամ, կարելի է անգամ ասել, համեմատաբար ավելի վախկոտ։ Նապաստակն, իհարկե, բազմաթիվ թշնամիներ ունի՝ աղվես, գայլ, լուսան, կուղբ, բվեճ, արծիվ և այլն, հետևաբար այս կենդանին շատ զգուշավոր է։ Արժե տեսնել, թե ինչպես է նապաստակը երկար ցատկերով, ասես գետնատարած, երկար ականջները մեջքին սեղմած՝ առաջ նետվում և փախչում գիշատիչներից, ցատկելով մեկ՝ հետ, մեկ՝ կողք՝ խառնում է հետքերը, ապա հեռանում է ու թաքնվում: Զուր չէ, որ նապաստակին «շլդիկ» են ասում. նա ոչ միայն իր առջևն ու շուրջն է տեսնում, այլ նաև մի քիչ էլ հետևը: Նրա ականջները նույնպես շրջվում են չորս կողմ, և գլուխը պտտելու կարիք չի լինում: Այնուամենայնիվ, երբ գիշատիչը հասնում է հասուն նապաստակին, նրան հաղթելը հեշտ չի լինում. ընկնելով մեջքի վրա՝ նապաստակը պաշտպանվում է երկար ճիրաններ ունեցող իր հետևի թաթերով և կատաղի հարվածներ է հասցնում: Նա անգամ կարող է կրծելու համար նախատեսված իր սուր ատամները գործի դնել։ Վայրի նապաստակին վտանգավոր է ձեռքերին վերցնել՝ անպայման կվնասի, և դա գիտեն որսորդները։ Կարելի է արձանագրել, որ նապաստակը շատ խելացի ու խորամանկ կենդանի է։ Հավանաբար ժողովրդական բանահյուսությունը նապաստակին վախկոտություն է վերագրել իր յուրահատուկ, կարծես թե վախեցած դիմագծեր ունեցող դնչիկի պատճառով, բայց ընդամենը նրա տեսքն է այդպիսին։ Իրականում կարելի է ասել, որ նապաստակից ավելի վախկոտ կենդանի գայլն է։ Բանն այն է, որ գայլը այնքան էլ շատ բնական թշնամիներ չունի, երևի թե կարելի է արձանագրել, որ գայլի համար առաջին թշնամին մարդն է։ Այնուամենայնիվ, գայլը շատ զգուշավոր և, հետևաբար, վախկոտ կենդանի է։ Դա երևում է անգամ նրա որսի եղանակից՝ խմբակային հարձակում հոտի ամենաթույլ ու փոքր ներկայացուցչի վրա։ Իսկ ի՞նչ է անում գայլը, երբ հանդիպում է սուր ժանիքներ ու ճանկեր ունեցող կենդանու. ոչինչ էլ չի անում, ուղղակի փախչում է։ Ընդ որում, նման մի կենդանին ունակ է անգամ ամբողջ ոհմակը փախուստի մատնել։ Իհարկե, անկյուն քշված գայլն էլ է կատաղի պայքարում և լինում է շատ վտանգավոր։ Այն, որ գայլին համարում են համարձակ կենդանի, գալիս է նրանից, որ գայլերը երբեմն նույնիսկ բնակավայրեր են մտնում կամ էլ հարձակվում են անգամ մարդու վրա։ Բայց այս ամենի պատճառը սովն է։ Բնակավայրերում գայլը շատ հեշտությամբ է մսի կտոր գտնում ՝ շների ու ընտանի այլ կենդանիների տեսքով, որոնք կան ամենուրեք։ Այս ամենից բացի, գայլի կերպարը ֆետիշացվել է բանտային մշակույթում։ Բանն այն է, որ դատապարտյալները իրենց սովորաբար համեմատում են միայնակ գայլերի հետ, քանի որ ինչպես գայլերը, իրենք էլ են վերցնում այն, ինչ ցանկանում են, և նրանց էլ են անընդհատ հետևում և հալածում «գայլախեղդները»։ 

Իսկ ընդհանրապես, ամենավախկոտ կենդանիներ համարվում են աֆրիկական անտառներում ապրող օկապները։ Սրանք արտաքինից մի քիչ նման են ընձուղտների, մի քիչ էլ ձիերի, իսկ ոտքերին զեբրի նման շերտեր կան։ Այս կենդանիների մասին քիչ բան է հայտնի, քանի որ նրանք փախչում են անգամ ամենափոքր վտանգի առկայության դեպքում։ Վախկոտ են նաև եղնիկները, և դա նորից կապված է մեծ թվով թշնամիներ ունենալու հետ։ Ընտանի կենդանիներից ամենավախկոտներն են համարվում ծովախոզուկները, որոնք ևս մեծաթիվ թշնամիներ ունեն վայրի բնության մեջ։ Վախկոտ կենդանիներ են համարվում նաև սովորական ուտիճները։ Այս միջատները ակտիվություն են ցուցաբերում միայն գիշերը, և բավական է լույսը վառել, ու նրանք կայծակնային արագությամբ վազում են դեպի իրենց թաքստոցները։
