Օրինակ, շուն պահողների 16%-ը վարակվում է բակտերիաներով, որոնք առաջացնում են գինգիվիտ և պարադոնտոզ: Եթե հիվանդ շունը թեկուզ մի անգամ լիզել է, ապա մարդը կարող է վարակվել խուզող մրմնջուկով (մկնատամ): Պաստերելան բակտերիաների ևս մի տեսակ է, որը հեշտությամբ փոխանցվում է մարդուն:
Առավել վտանգավոր են Capnocytophaga Canimorsus բակտերիաները, որոնք կարող են հանգեցնել մարդու վերջույթների լիակատար ախտահարման ու դրանց վերջնական պարալիզման:
