Աֆրիկա մայրցամաքի ամենահարավային կետը Բարեհուսո հրվանդանն է:
Իրականում այդպես չէ:
Պարզվուն է՝ դա ավելի քիչ հայտնի Ասեղի հրվանդանն է։
Ասեղի հրվանդանը ունի հետևյալ 340 49'58" հարավային լայնության և 20000'12" արևել յան երկայնության կոորդինատները և հանդիսանում է Ատլանտյան և Հնդկական օվկիանոսների բաժանման պաշտոնական կետը: Եթե դուք բախտ ունենաք լողալ այդտեղով, ապա չեք էլ նկատի թեթև կորություն ունեցող ոչ ընդգծուն առափնյա այդ գիծը, որտեղ միայն մի կետում բուրգի տեսքով քարերի կուտակում կա, որը և նշում է մայրցամաքի ամենահարավային կետը:
Ասեղի հրվանդանի հեռավորությունը Բարեհուսո հրվանդանից 150 կմ է:
Բարեհուսո հրվանդանին փառք և ճանաչում է բերել այն, որ Եվրոպայից Հնդկաստան և Չինաստան ուղևորվող նավերի անձնակազմի համար եղել է իրոք բարի նշան: Միայն այդտեղ հասնելուց հետո են նրանք նավի շարժման ուղղությունը փոխել հարավայինից արևմտյան:
Պորտուգալացի նավագնաց Բարտոլոմեո Դիաշը (1451–1500) առաջին մարդն էր, որ հասավ Բարեհուսո հրվանդանին և հետո Աֆրիկան տեսավ մյուս կողմից:
Նա հրվանդանի անունը դրեց Փոթորիկների հրվանդան, բայց նրան վարձողը՝ Պորտուգալիայի թագավոր Ժուան 2-րդը, ցանկանալով շահագրգռել այլ նավագնացների, որ չվախենան նույն ճանապարհը անցնել, որոշեց այն կոչել Բարեհուսո հրվանդան: Սա ուժեղ մարկետինգային քայլ էր այն ժամանակների համար, և իրեն արդարացրեց:
5 տարի անց Դիաշը հենց այն հրվանդանի մոտ, որին ավելի ճիշտ անուն էր տվել՝ Փոթորիկի, զոհվեց՝ իր խորտակված 4 նավերից մեկի հետ ջրի հատակ անցնելով:
Ասեղի հրվանդանը ևս հանգիստ չէ: Սա ևս համարվում է վտանգավոր տեղ նավագնացների համար և նման է «նավերի գերեզմանի»: Իր անունը նա ստացել է սուր ժայռերի և խութերի առկայության համար, որոնց բախվելով՝ նավերը խորտակվում են: Մոտակա քաղաքում անգամ խորտակված նավերի թանգարան կա:
Շնորհիվ մեկուսացման և անմատչելիության՝ Ասեղի հրվանդանի քարոտ լողափները լիքն են կենդանական և բուսական աշխարհով, ընդ որում՝ կան հազվագյուտ կենդանիներ և բույսեր: Մայիսից օգոստոս առափնյա ջրերը ուղղակի եռում են միգրացիա կատարող հարավաֆրիկյան սարդինաներից: Նրանց վտառները հանդիսանում են երկրագնդի վրա կենդանի օրգանիզմների ամենամեծ կուտակումներից մեկը և կարող են ունենալ մինչև 6 կմ երկարություն և 2 կմ լայնություն: Հարյուրհազարավոր դելֆիններ, շնաձկներ, փոկեր, թռչուններ և այլն կատարում են որս և, դրանով հանդերձ, չեն ազդում սարդինաների քանակի վրա:
