Աբխազիայում, որտեղ կիրակի ընթանում են նախագահական ընտրությունները, մեկնարկել է քվեարկությունը, լրագրողներին հայտնել են Աբխազիայի Հանրապետության Կենտրոնական ընտրական հանձնաժողովում, հաղորդում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:

Գործակալության զրուցակցի խոսքով՝ բոլոր ընտրատեղամասերում ներկա են նախագահի թեկնածուների դիտորդները, ինչպես նաեւ հանրապետություն են ժամանել ավելի քան 100 միջազգային դիտորդներ: Քվեարկության ընթացքի շուրջ անկախ դիտորդական առաքելություն է իրականացնում «Ժողովրդական վերահսկողություն» տեղական հասարակական կազմակերպությունը: Ընտրությունների ընթացքը լուսաբանում են ավելի քան 50 օտարերկրյա եւ աբխազական լրագրողներ:

Աբխազիայի նախագահի ընտրություններն անցկացվում են արդեն յոթերորդ անգամ՝ սկսած 1994 թվականից: Ներկայումս բարձրագույն պետական պաշտոնին հավակնում է ինը թեկնածու՝ հանրապետության գործող ղեկավար Ռաուլ Խաջիմբան, Պետական անվտանգության ծառայության նախկին ղեկավար Ասթամուր Թարբան, «Ամցախարա» ընդդիմադիր կուսակցության նախագահ Ալխաս Քվիցինիան, նախկին վարչապետ Շամիլ Ադզինբան, խորհրդարանի պատգամավոր Ալմաս Ջափուան, ԱԳ նախկին փոխնախարար Օլեգ Արշբան, «Աքզաարա» կուսակցության նախագահ եւ ՆԳ նախկին նախարար Լեոնիդ Ձափշբան, գործարար Ասթամուր Կակալիան, Աբխազիայի համալսարանի դասախոս Արթուր Անքվաբը:

Նախագահի ընտրությունները կհամարվեն կայացած, եթե դրանց մասնակցի ընտրողների առնվազն կեսը: Առաջին փուլում հաղթանակի համար անհրաժեշտ է հավաքել քվեարկությանը մասնակցած ընտրողների ձայների առնվազն կեսը:
