Թուրքական Milliyet–ի փոխանցմամբ՝ երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնը եղել է Մարմարա ծովում՝ Ստամբուլից 67 կմ հեռավորության վրա։
Երկրաշարժի հետեւանքով մի շարք վայրերում բնակիչները խուճապահար փողոց են դուրս եկել։
