Մեզանից շատերը գիտեն ցավազրկման մասին, որ այն օգտագործվում է վիրահատությունների ժամանակ որպես ցավազրկող, սա այն է, որտեղ ավարտվում են մեր գիտելիքները, և սկսվում են վախերը, զգացմունքները և ենթադրությունները:
Ընդհանուր անզգայացումը կամ անզգայացումը `գիտակցության բացակայության սահմանափակ ժամանակահատված է` հատուկ ցավազրկողներով, որի ընթացքում հիվանդը անցնում է վիրահատության, որից հետո հիվանդի գիտակցությունը վերականգնվում է: Անեսթեզիոլոգի գործողությունները ուղղված են վիրահատության պահին հիվանդին ցավից ազատելուն:

Երկրորդ, անեսթեզիայից հետո, ոմանք նշում են քնի խանգարումներ, որոնք կարող են հետապնդել նույնիսկ վիրահատությունից հետո մի քանի ամիս անց:
Երրորդ, վիրահատությունից անմիջապես հետո անզգայացման օգտագործումը կարող է հանգեցնել գլխացավերի, հալյուցինացիաների, լսողության և խոսքի խանգարումների: Այս բոլոր ախտանիշները սովորաբար անհետանում են ցավազրկման օգտագործումից հետո հաջորդ մի քանի ժամվա ընթացքում:

Անզգայացումից հետո նկատված հիշողության խանգարումները միշտ մեծ խնդիրներ են առաջացնում հիվանդների համար: Հիվանդները անհանգստացած են, թե ինչ է տեղի ունեցել ցավազրկումից հետո իրենց հիշողության հետ, որքան կտևի այն, ինչ կարելի է անել վիճակը թեթևացնելու համար: Որպես կանոն, անեսթեզիոլոգները չեն կարող հստակ պատասխաններ տալ վերոնշյալ հարցերին:
