Իսկ որտեղի՞ց է մեր կյանք մտել «թերմոս» բառը և ամուր նստել մեր կենցաղում: 

Թե ով է այն մարդը, որն առաջինն է այդ անոթին տվել թերմոս անունը, հայտնի չէ: Այնուամենայնիվ, եթե մտածենք այն մասին, որ ջերմաստիճանը պահպանող այդ անոթի անունը համընկնում է անգլիական «THERMOS» ընկերության անվան հետ, որոշ բաներ պարզ են դառնում: 

Պարզվում է ամենակարևորը` «թերմոս» սովորական բառը առաջացել է «Թերմոս» հատուկ անունից: Թերմոսների պատմությունը սկսել է շոտլանդացի ֆիզիկոս և քիմիկոս Ջեյմս Դևարը 1892 թվականին, երբ գիտական հասարակության դատին է ներկայացրել կրկնակի պատերով հետաքրքիր մի անոթ, որի պատերի միջև գտնվող ծավալից օդը դուրս էր մղված: 

Ինչի՞ համար էր արհեստականորեն վակուում ստեղծվել: 

Պարզվում է, որ ստեղծված վակուումի պատճառով արտաքին պատերի ջերմաստիճանը դանդաղ է ազդում անոթի ներքին բաղադրության ջերմաստիճանի վրա, քանի որ նրանց միջև չկա ջերմությունը փոխանցող մատերիա: 

Հետևաբար, վստահորեն կարելի է փաստել, որ անոթի մեջ լցվող հեղուկը, անկախ արտաքին ջերմաստիճանից, երկար ժամանակ կպահպանի իր ջերմաստիճանը: 

Այնուամենայնիվ, գործնականում «Դևարի անոթի» սկզբունքով պատրաստված ջերմամեկուսիչ տարաները ամբողջականորեն չեն պահպանում ներքին անոթի ջերմաստիճանը, քանի որ երկու անոթները գործնականում ի վերջո միաձուլվում են միմյանց հետ, որն էլ հենց հնարավոր է դարձնում ջերմափոխանցումը: 

Բայց THERMOS- ի ինժեներների համար սա անլուծելի խնդիր չէր, և նրանք հաղթահարել են դա: Ընկերությունը մշակել է բազմաթիվ եզակի տեխնոլոգիաներ: Իր կառուցողական գտածոների և տարբեր հատուկ նյութերի օգտագործման շնորհիվ THERMOS-ի արտադրանքը գրեթե մրցակիցներ չունի: Այն ժամանակ ո՛չ Դևարը և ո՛չ էլ գիտական համայնքը չէին կարծում, որ նոր գյուտը լայնորեն կօգտագործվի առօրյա կյանքում: 

Ապրանքների արդյունաբերական արտադրության մեջ «Դևարի անոթի» սկզբունքի օգտագործման արտոնագրային իրավունքը կարողացել է գրանցել Ռեյնոլդ Բերգերը 1904 թվականին: Նա հարմարավետության համար կատարելագործել է «Դևարի անոթը»՝ այն ծածկել մետաղական պատյանով, ստեղծել հերմետիկ կափարիչ և անգամ արտաքին կափարիչբաժակ: 

Ապա Բերգերը մրցույթ է հայտարարել նոր հայտնագործության արտադրության ապրանքային նշանը որոշելու համար: Հաղթել է Մյունխենի մի բնակիչ, որը առաջարկել է Тhermos անվանումը (հուներեն therme տաք): Բերգերը հիմնել է Тhermos Gesellschaft m.b.H. (Тhermos GmbH) ընկերությունը, որը 1904 թվականի մարտից սկսել է գործել և արտադրել ներկայումս մեզ շատ ծանոթ թերմոսները:
