Անհրաժեշտ է հարգանքի տուրք մատուցել լվացքի մեքենայի գյուտին, որի շնորհիվ մարդը շատ է առաջ գնացել իր զարգացման մեջ: Դա ապացուցելու համար կան բազմաթիվ օրինակներ՝ լվացքի մեքենա ձեռք բերելը հնարավորություն է տվել կնոջը ավելի շատ ուշադրություն դարձնել ինչպես իր, այնպես էլ ընտանիքի մյուս անդամների վրա, նկատելիորեն ավելացել է նրա ազատ ժամանակը, և նա ավելի հաճախ է գիրք կարդացել և այլն: 

Այն մասին, թե արդյո՞ք լվացքի մեքենան իրոք էական դեր է խաղացել քաղաքակրթության զարգացման մեջ, կարելի է բավականին երկար վիճել: Բայց պարզ է, որ ժամանակակից մարդն այլևս չի կարող ապրել առանց այդ կենցաղային հրաշք սարքի: Իսկ ինչպե՞ս է սկսվել լվացքի մեքենայի պատմությունը: Անհնար է չնկատել, որ մանող մեքենայի գյուտը բերել է կտորի գնի արագ անկման, և այն հասանելի է դարձել յուրաքանչյուրի համար, որի արդյունքում էլ առաջացել է մեծ քանակությամբ լվացք անելու անհրաժեշտություն: 

Եվ դա տնային տնտեսուհիների կյանքը վերածել է տանջանքի: Այդ իսկ պատճառով զարմանալի չէ, որ շատ գյուտարարներ են փորձել լվացքի գործընթացը մեխանիզացնել: Ներկայումս պահպանված են առաջին լվացքի մեքենաների համար տրված արտոնագրերը, բայց իրականում նման սարքեր ստեղծվել են դեռ այն ժամանակ, երբ չկային  արտոնագրային գրասենյակներ: 

Ամերիկացի Ջեյմս Քինգը առաջիններից մեկն է, որ 1851 թվականին ստեղծել է նման սարք: Նրա լվացքի մեքենան, որը փոխարինել է լվացքի տախտակին, ունեցել է ձեռքի ուժով աշխատող պտտվող թմբուկ: Լվացքի մեքենայի երկրորդ գյուտարարը ամերիկացի Մուրն է, որը 1856 թվականին արտոնագրել է մի սարք՝ փայտե արկղ, որի մեջ վերևից պտտվում էր փայտե շրջանակ: 

Արկղի մեջ էին լցվում լվացող նյութերը, լվացքը, ինչպես նաև փայտե գնդիկներ, որոնք փաստացի կրկնում են ձեռքով լվացումը: Հենց դրանով էլ այդ սարքը տարբերվում է ստեղծված այլ սարքերից: 1874 թվականին Ուիլ յամ Բլեքստոնը հատուկ իր կնոջ համար ստեղծել, ապա սկսել է վաճառել կենցաղային օգտագործման լվացքի մեքենա: Նման սարքերի առաջացումը տեղի է ունեցել մեկը մյուսի հետևից: 19-րդ դարի 70-ականների կեսերից սկսած՝ լվացքի մեքենաների բումը հանգեցրել է նրան, որ միայն Ամերիկայում ստեղծվել և արտոնագրվել են 2000-ից ավելի մեխանիզմներ, որոնք թույլ են տալիս լվանալ հագուստը: 

Բացի դա, 1861 թվականին մեքենաների վրա սկսել են տեղադրել ձեռքի մամլիչներ, որոնք նախատեսված են լվացքը չորացնելու համար (դրանք պարտադիր եղել են ոչ ավտոմատ լվացքի մեքենաների վրա ավելի քան հարյուր տարի): Լվացքի մեքենաների առաջին զանգվածային արտադրություն սկսել է իրականացնել գերմանական MIELE & CIE ընկերությունը, որը նախկինում մասնագիտացած էր կաթի սեպարատորների և կարագի հարիչների արտադրության մեջ: 

Պարզվել է, որ կարագի հարիչի կառուցվածքը նման է լվացքի մեքենայի կառուցվածքին: Ընկերությանը, առավելագույն ջանքեր գործադրելով, հաջողվել է փոխակերպման միջոցով իր սարքից ստանալ լվացքի մեքենա: Thor սարքը, որը արտադրվել է 1908 թվականին Hurley Machine Company- ի կողմից, եղել է առաջին էլեկտրական լվացքի մեքենան: Այդ մեքենան ուշագրավ էր նրանով, որ կարող էր թմբուկը պտտել տարբեր ուղղություններով՝ կատարելով ութ պտույտ յուրաքանչյուր ուղղությամբ: 

Շատ առումներով, այդ կենցաղային սարքի զարգացմանը խոչընդոտել է համընդհանուր էլեկտրաֆիկացման բացակայությունը, և միայն յուրաքանչյուր տանը էլեկտրաէներգիայի մուտքով է լվացքի մեքենան կարողացել իր պատվավոր տեղը զբաղեցնել տնային տեխնիկայի շարքում:
