1940-ականներին տեսանկարահանելն ու նկարահանածը ցուցադրելը հնարավոր էր միայն կինոժապավենի օգնությամբ: Պատմությունը հիշում է առաջին տեսամագնիտոֆոնը, որը ստեղծված էր հեռուստատեսության կարիքների համար: Այն ստեղծել և վաճառքի է հանել ամերիկյան Ampex ընկերությունը, որը հիմնադրվել է 1943 թվականին ռուս ներգաղթյալ Ալեքսանդր Պոնյատովի կողմից: 

Առաջին տեսամագնիտոֆոնը, որը ստեղծել էր այդ ընկերությունը, եղել է սկավառակային: Այն առաջին անգամ հանրությանն է ներկայացվել 1956 թվականի մարտի 14-ին և հնարավոր էր օգտագործել միայն պրոֆեսիոնալ հեռուստատեսային ստուդիաներում: Սովորական մարդիկ նույնիսկ չէին էլ մտածում այն գնելու մասին, քանի որ վախեցնող էին այդ սարքի տպավորիչ չափերը, իսկ քաշը համարյա մեկ տոննա էր: 

Դե, գինն էլ շատ մատչելի չէր, քանի որ համեմատելի էր միջին դասի ավտոմեքենայի արժեքի հետ: Այնուամենայնիվ, Ampex- ի արտադրանքը անհավատալի պահանջարկ է ունցել լիովին մրցակցության բացակայության պայմաններում: Տեսագրման գործընթացի անվանումը ժամանակին կոչվել է «ամպենսինգ»: 

1958 թվականին Մոսկվայում կայացած ամերիկյան ցուցահանդեսում Նիկիտա Խրուշչովը հանդիպել է ԱՄՆ դեսպանի հետ և տեսանկարահանվել: Հետագայում այդ հանդիպման տեսանյութը դիտելուց հետո Խորհրդային պետության ղեկավարը հրամայել է ստեղծել նմանատիպ ձայնագրիչ և «ոչ ավելի վատը», քան օտարերկրյան է: 

Պատմության մեջ առաջին խորհրդային տեսաձայնագրիչը հայտնվել է 1960 թվականին, այն ստացել է «Կադր» անվանումը, և արտադրվել է ընդհուպ մինչև գորբաչովյան վերակառուցումը: Պարզ է, որ այդ ընթացքում արևմուտքում կարողացել են արագորեն անցնել ավելի առաջադեմ մոդելների: Տեսամագնիտոֆոնների զանգվածային արտադրություն սկսվել է 1970-ականներին: 

Ընդ որում, Ampex- ը շարունակել է աշխատել իր այն սարքերի վրա, որոնք նախատեսված են պրոֆեսիոնալ ստուդիաներում ձայնագրություններ իրականացնելու համար, իսկ բոլոր մյուս զարգացումները մղվել են հետին պլան: Տնային տեսամագնիտոֆոնների շուկայում առաջատարներն են դարձել Sonyին և Philips- ը: 

Նրանք 1971-1972 թվականներին արտադրել են կոմպակտ տեսամագնիտոֆոններ համապատասխան ձայներիզներով: 1980-ականներին արձանագրվել է մագնիտոֆոնների վաճառքի իսկական բում: 1990-ականները համարվում են այդ սարքերի մայրամուտի սկիզբ, քանի որ կասետային սարքերի տեխնոլոգիան շատ էր հնացել:

 Սկսվել է թվային ձայնագրման դարաշրջանը: Բայց չնայած այն բանին, որ DVD- ներում տեսագրվածի որակը շատ ավելի լավն է, քան «հնացած» տեսաժապավենների դեպքում, մարդիկ դեռ երկար ժամանակ են օգտագործել և կշարունակեն օգտագործել դրանք, քանի որ կուտակված տեսանյութերը անհնար է դիտել նոր ձևաչափի սարքերով: 

Այսօր DVD- ն, ի վերջո, դուրս է մղել տեսամագնիտոֆոնին շուկայից, նրանց վաճառքի հարաբերակցությունը մոտ 1:40-ի է: Բայց պետք է հիշել, որ այն ընկերությունները, որոնք մասնագիտացել են վիդեոտեխնիկայի ոլորտում, տարեցտարի փորձում են բարելավել իրենց արտադրանքը:
