Թեյի արարողակարգը թեյի պատրաստման ծիսակարգային ձև է, որը ձևավորվել է ասիական մշակույթում չինացիների, ճապոնացիների, հնդիկների, թայվանցիների և վիետնամցիների շրջանում։ Թեյի արարողությունը, որը ճապոներենից բառացի թարգմանած նշանակում է «թեյի ձև», իսկ չինարեն՝ «թեյի արվեստ», իր մեջ ներառում է թեյի արարողային պատրաստումը և մատուցումը։ 

Չնայած ճապոնական թեյի արարողությունը ավելի հայտնի է, բայց այն ձևավորվել է չինական թեյի արարողակարգի ազդեցությամբ՝ սկսած 9-րդ դարից, երբ թեյն առաջին անգամ Չինաստանից ներկրվել է Ճապոնիա։ Վիետնամցիների մոտ թեյի արարողությունը, որը նույնպես ձևավորվել է չինականի հիման վրա, կատարվում է նաև հարսանիքների և այլ կրոնական ծիսակատարությունների ժամանակ։ 

Թեյի այս բոլոր արարողությունները և ծիսակարգերը իրենց մեջ ներառում են «գեղեցիկի առանձնացում առօրյա կյանքի թոհուբոհի մեջ», նրբաճաշակություն, ներքին հոգևոր կապ, հնազանդություն, զսպվածություն և պարզություն: 

Երբ թեյի արարողությունը ընդունվում է և գործածվում, որպեսզի մարդու և բնության միջև ձևավորի ներդաշնակ կապ, կարգավորի միտքը, հանգստացնի սիրտը և հասցնի մաքրությանը, այդ ժամանակ թեյի արվեստը դառնում է «չադաո»՝ «թեյիզմ»։ 

Թեյիզմը կապված է թեյի մտածողության հետ՝ կենտրոնացում հրաշալի համ ունեցող թեյի հետ։ Թեյիստը այն մարդն է, որը կատարում է արարողակարգը և հաճույք ստանում թեյի արվեստից և թեյիզմից։ Թեյախմությունը շատ ազգերի մոտ օգտագործվում է որպես մեդիտացիա, բախտագուշակություն և արարողություն։ 

Համապատասխան թեյախմության սովորությունների կարելի է հանդիպել ամբողջ աշխարհում։ Եվրոպայում, ներառյալ վիկտորյանական ժամանակաշրջանը, «մեծ թեյի» կամ երեկոյան թեյի արարողակարգը հասարակական իրադարձություն է եղել, և եղել է այնքան կարևոր, որքան ինքնին թեյ խմելը։ Վիկտորյանական ժամանակաշրջանի թեյախմությունը ձևավորվել է հնդկական թեյի արվեստի ազդեցությամբ։ 

Ամերիկյան թեյի մշակույթի արմատները հասնում են այն ժամանակները, երբ Ամերիկան Հոլանդիայի գաղութն է եղել։ Գաղութներում թեյը մատուցվում էր արծաթյա քամիչներով, բարձրակարգ ճենապակյա բաժակներով և նուրբ թեյատուփերով։ Ճապոնիայում թեյի պարտեզներ են ստեղծվել Մուրամաշի (13331573) և Մոմոյամա (1573-1600) ժամանակաշրջաններում, որպես ճապոնական թեյի արարողակարգի վայր, կամ՝ չանյու։ Պարտեզն ունենում է դարպասներ և փակ տաղավար, որտեղ հյուրերը սպասում են հրավերի, որ մտնեն։ 

Հետո նրանք անցնում են դարպասներով դեպի ներսի այգի, որտեղ լվանում են իրենց ձեռքերը և ողողում բերանը, մինչ կմտնեն թեյատուն։ Ճանապարհը միշտ թարմ և կանաչ է պահվում, նման կերպ այն նմանվում է հեռավոր լեռան արահետի, և բազմագույն ծաղիկները շեղում են այցելուներին կողմնակի մտքերից։ 

Այն սենյակը, որտեղ տեղի է ունենում թեյի արարողակարգը, կոչվում է չասիցու (բառացի՝ «թեյի սենյակ»)։ Վաղ ժամանակներում թեյատները պատուհաններ չեն ունեցել, բայց ավելի ուշ ստեղծել են դրանք, որ երևա այգու հրաշագեղ տեսարանը։

 Իսկ Չինաստանում ներկայումս թեյատունը իրականում նման է ամերիկյան սրճարանի, չնայած այնտեղ ավելի շատ թեյ են մատուցում, քան սուրճ։ Մարդիկ հավաքվում են թեյատանը, որպեսզի շփվեն, զրուցեն և վայելեն թեյը, իսկ երիտասարդները հանդիպում են այնտեղ իրենց լավագույն կեսերին։
