Թուրքիայի իշխանությունները Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսին հրավիրել են Ստամբուլի Սուրբ Սոֆիայի մզկիթի բացմանը: Հռոմի պապը հրավիրված հյուրերի շարքում է, որ մասնակցեն Սուրբ Սոֆիայի մզկիթի բացմանը հրավիրվածների շարքում է, հայտարարել է Թուրքիայի նախագահի մամուլի քարտուղար Իբրահիմ Քալինը:

Թուրքիան հրավիրել է բոլորին, այդ թվում՝ Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսին, պատմական հոգեւոր կառույցի՝ որպես մուսուլմանական աղոթատան բացման արարողությանը, ասել է Քալինը CNN News- ին:

537 թվականի բյուզանդական տաճարը 1453 թվականի մայիսի 29-ին Կոստանդնուպոլսի նվաճումից հետո վերածվեց մզկիթի, իսկ 1935-ին, Մուստաֆա Քեմալ Աթաթուրքի որոշմամբ, դարձավ թանգարան: Այս տարվա հուլիսին Թուրքիայի իշխանությունները չեղյալ հայտարարեցին այդ որոշումը, եւ այժմ հին քրիստոնեական տաճարը կրկին մզկիթ կդառնա:

Ավելի վաղ Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսն իր հիասթափությունն էր հայտնել այս որոշման կապակցությամբ: «Իմ մտքերը Ստամբուլում են: Ես մտածում եմ Սուրբ Սոֆիայի մասին եւ շատ եմ տխրել»,- ասել էր նա շաբաթօրյա օրհնության ժամանակ Սուրբ Պետրոսի հրապարակում:

Մինչ այդ Ստամբուլում պատրաստվում են Սուրբ Սոֆիայի բացմանը՝ որպես մզկիթ։ Այնտեղ մուգ կանաչ գորգեր են փռել՝ Էրդողանի ընտրած գույնը:

Քրիստոնեական խորհրդանիշներն ու պատկերները, որոնք զարդարում են կառույցի պատերը, պետք է ծածկված լինեն վարագույրների համակարգով, քանի որ, ըստ իսլամական կանոնների, աղոթքի տարածքում չպետք է կենդանի էակների պատկերներ լինեն:
