INTERNATIONAL NEWSԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը նպաստում է Թուրքիայի «եւս մեկ էքսպանսիոնիստական իսլամական պետության վերածվելուն, որը ձգտում է տարածաշրջանային գերիշխանության», Washington Post-ում հրապարակված իր հոդվածում նշում է Դեւիդ Իգնատիուսը։
Թուրքիան հեռանում է ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամի եւ մուսուլմանական աշխարհում Իսրայելի առանցքային դաշնակցի իր նախկին դիրքորոշումից ու սկսում է ավելի նմանվել Իրանին։ Թե՛ Իրանը, թե՛ Թուրքիան «իսլամի արմատական տարբերակն առաջ են մղում այն ժամանակ, երբ արաբական շատ երկրներում չափավոր ձայներ են հնչում», «հին փառքի հետադարձ կարոտաբաղձություն են զգում» եւ «փրոքսի ուժերի միջոցով անկայունություն են արտահանում», կարծում է հեղինակը։
ՆԱՏՕ-ի հետ Թուրքիայի հարաբերությունները լարվել են այն բանից հետո, երբ ձեռք բերեց ռուսական Ս-400 ԶՀՀ-ն։ Միացյալ Նահանգները պնդում է, որ գնումը ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամ երկրների անվտանգությանը սպառնալիք է ներկայացնում, եւ օրենք է ընդունել, որը Թուրքիայի դեմ պատժամիջոցներ է նախատեսում։
Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը Ստամբուլում ընդունել է իսլամիստական ՀԱՄԱՍ-ի հետախուզվող առաջնորդներին, եւ Թուրքիան Արեւելյան Միջերկրական ծովում լարվածության էսկալացիայի ճնշման տակ է հայտնվել տարածաշրջանում տարածքային ջրերի եւ բնական պաշարների հանդեպ իր հավակնությունների պատճառով։
ԱՄՆ Կոնգրեսի անդամները «սառեցրել են վերջին 2 տարում Թուրքիա ամերիկյան զենքի բոլոր հիմնական մատակարարումները», նշում է Իգնատիուսը՝ վկայակոչելով Defense News-ը, քանի որ Կոնգրեսն Էրդողանին կասկածով է վերաբերվում։
Մինչդեռ Էրդողանը «ռազմական հզորության ցուցադրության համար իրանական խթանին նման» ինչ-որ բան է նախաձեռնել՝ տեղադրելով 12 երկրներում, ցուցադրելով «երկրի սահմաններից դուրս գերիշխանության նոր օսմանական ձգտումը»։
Թուրքիայի նախագահը կարող էր պահպանել Թրամփի բարեհաճությունը՝ «ջանադրորեն շոյելով» նրա ես-ը, այն ժամանակ, երբ թուրք բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնատար անձինք կտրուկ անբարեհաճություն են արտահայտել Թրամփի միցակրից Ջո Բայդենի հանդեպ։ Իսկ Բայդենի վերաբերյալ Թուրքիայի նախագահի պաշտոնական ներկայացուցիչ Իբրահիմ Քալընի հայտարարությունը «հնչեց այնպես, ասես Անկարան ԱՄՆ նախագահական ընտրություններում ինչ-որ մեկի կողմում է»։
Հոդվածում նշվում է, որ Թուրքիան սպառնում է տարածաշրջանային կայունությանը, եւ Թրամփի մեղմ դիրքորոշումը հակասում է իր նախորդին՝ Բարաք Օբամային ուղղված քննադատությանը Իրանի հանդեպ մեղմության համար։
