Գառնիկը Արցախյան գոյամարտի լեգենդար հերոսի, տանկային վաշտի հրամանատար Լեռնիկ Մալխասյանի ավագ որդին էր։ Ծնվել և մեծացել է հայրենասեր զինվորականի ընտանիքում։ Հանգիստ, խաղաղ, բարի տղա էր։ Միշտ ժպտացող աչքերով էր ողջունում։ Արև կար աչքերում, լույս։ Այս մասին այսօր Tert.am-ի հետ զրույցում ասաց հակառակորդի դեմ ծավալված մարտերի ընթացքում նահատակված կամավոր Գառնիկ Մալխասյանի (ծնված 1991 թ. Վեդի քաղաք) հորեղբոր հարս Նունե Գալստյանը:
«Շատ նվիրված էր բոլորին, միշտ պատրաստ։ Որպես հայ տղա՝ ամեն ինչ ձեռքից գալիս էր։ Հայրենիքով ապրում էր: Երբ իմացավ, որ սահմանում որպես կամավոր հաճախ եմ լինում, ասաց՝ հարսիկ, ես հպարտանում եմ, որ իմ հարսիկն ես, բայց քո երեխեքին ավելի շատ ես պետք։ Ասացի՝ իսկ հայրենիքը, ասաց՝ մենք կպահենք։ Շատ գեղեցիկ էր: Նա սիրում էր կյանքը, պաշտում էր ծնողներին, հղի կնոջը՝ Ելենային ու որդուն՝ Արամին»,-ասաց ազգականը:
Նա նշեց, որ Գառնիկ Մալխասյանն ապրում էր ծնողների հետ, իրենից փոքր եղբայր և քույր ունի, վնասակար որևէ սովորություն չի չունեցել։ «Բարի, շատ ուրիշ տղա էր: Ուսանողներին ասել էր՝ հավաքվեք, ամեն առավոտ ձեզ Երևան կտանեմ։ Ինչքան տեղավորվեք՝ կտանեմ, փող մի ծախսեք, երեխեք, ես ձեզ դասի կտանեմ։
Ինձ զանգեց, ասաց՝ հարսիկ ջան, պապիս է մահացել, իջել եմ։ Էս օրերն անցնի, Լյովիկին (տղայիս) հետս դասի կտանեմ, թող տրանսպորտով չգնա, իմ ախպերն ա, կողքս կնստի, իրար հետ Երևան կգնանք, հա՛մ հանգիստ կգնա, հա՛մ էլ չի ուշանա դասից։
Հարցին, թե երբևէ սահմանից զանգել է, ազգականը պատասխանեց, որ Գառնիկն արդեն վաղուց ռազմական գործի մեջ էր որպես կամավոր, գիտակցում էր, որ չպետք է զանգեր: Հայրը՝ Լեռնիկը ևս դիրքերում է եղել այդ ժամանակ, նա է որդուն դիրքերից իջեցրել։
«Իրականում Վեդու ամենակատարյալ տղերքը զոհվեցին։ Քառօրյային` Անդրանիկը, օրեր առաջ Գառնիկն ու Դավոն։ Դավիթն էլ հարևանս էր։ Մանկությանս հարևանը. մեզ մոտ բոլորն են սգում»,-ասաց նա:
