ԱՄՆ պետդեպարտամենտը նախօրեին հայտարարել է, որ պետքարտուղար Մայք Պոմպեոն կայցելի Թուրքիա՝ մի շարք կրոնական հարցեր քննարկելու, ինչն Անկարայում դժգոհությունների ալիք է բարձրացրել, գրում է Ahval-ը։

«Պետքարտուղար Պոմպեոն կմեկնի Ստամբուլ, որպեսզի հանդիպի Կոստանդնուպոլսի Պատրիարք Նորին Սրբություն Բարդուղիմեոս Ա-ի հետ, որպեսզի քննարկի Թուրքիայում և տարածաշրջանում կրոնին վերաբերող հարցեր և առաջ մղի ամբողջ աշխարհում կրոնական ազատության նկատմամբ մեր ամուր դիրքորոշումը»,- ասված է Պետդեպարտամենտի հայտարարության մեջ:

Թուրքիայի ԱԳՆ պաշտոնական ներկայացուցիչ Համի Աքսոյը քննադատաբար է արձագանքել այցի մասին հայտարարությանը՝ նշելով, որ «Միացյալ Նահանգների համար ավելի լավ կլիներ նախ իրեն նայել հայելու մեջ և անհրաժեշտ զգայունություն դրսևորել մարդու իրավունքների խախտումների նկատմամբ, ինչպիսիք են՝ ռասիզմը, իսլամի հանդեպ թշնամանքը և սեփական երկրում ատելության հողի վրա կատարված հանցագործությունը»։

Աքսոյը հայտարարել է, որ «Թուրքիայում ոչ մահմեդականները լիարժեք կրոնական ազատություն ունեն, մինչդեռ աշխարհի այլ մասերում մահմեդականները՝ ոչ» ։

«ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարի՝ մեր երկիր այցի մասին հայտարարության մեջ օգտագործված բառերը խիստ անտեղի են», - ասել է Աքսոյը։

Հուլիսին Պոմպեոն քննադատել էր թուրքական կառավարությանը՝ Սուրբ Սոֆիայի տաճարը մզկիթի վերածելու մասին որոշումը։
