«Շուշին բավականին երկար էին պահում, բայց ինչ-որ պահի դադարեցին պայքարել»․ Պեգով

«Որպես իրավիճակը ներսից տեսած մարդ՝ կարող եմ ասել՝ վստահ եմ, որ հնարավոր էր շարունակել պայքարը Շուշիի համար: Անգամ հայտնի հայտարարության հրապարակումից հետո Շուշիում շարունակում էին մնալ Արցախի ՊԲ-ի որոշակի ստորաբաժանումներ, որոնք և՛ մարտեր էին վարում, և՛ պատրաստ էին պաշտպանել քաղաքը այն խմբավորումներից, որոնք այնտեղ հայտնվել էին «Դժոխքի ձորով»։
«Դժոխքի ձորի» հետ կապված մտահղացումն աշխատում էր, և հայկական ուժերը կարողանում էին վերահսկել այդ ճանապարհով առաջ շարժվել փորձող ադրբեջանական ուժերի տեղաշարժը: Շուշին իսկապես բավականին երկար էին պահում: Երբ Ադրբեջանը 40 կմ ձգվող նեղ կիրճով իր ստորաբաժանումներն էր փորձում առաջ տանել, հրետանին աշխատում էր նրանց ուղղությամբ, հետախուզությունը ևս վերահսկողության տակ էր պահում այդ գործընթացը:
Չգիտես ինչու, ինչ-որ պահի կա՛մ հրաման էր տրվել, կա՛մ տեսադաշտից բաց էին թողել իրավիճակը, գուցե երբ քաղաք կարողացել էին մտնել որոշ խմբեր, սակայն ինչ-որ պահի ահաբեկիչների և թուրք-ադրբեջանական ուժերի դեմ դադարեցին պայքարել: Ինձ համար դա մեծ հարց է, և բարդ է ասել, թե ում մեղավորությամբ է դա տեղի ունեցել։ Ադրբեջանցիներին հաջողվել էր դիրք զբաղեցնել քաղաքի մուտքի մոտ, ինչի արդյունքում նրանք կրակ էին բացում քաղաք մտնել փորձող ցանկացած տրանսպորտային միջոցի ուղղությամբ: Հնարավոր էր արդյո՞ք մաքրել այդ բոլոր դիպուկահարներին, այո՛, հնարավոր էր, և աշխատանք տարվում էր, այլ հարց է, թե ինչու այդ աշխատանքը կասեցվեց ամենապատասխանատու պահին: Այն պահին ադրբեջանական ուժերի մեծ կուտակումներ Շուշիում չեն եղել»,- հավելել է Պեգովը:
