Աշխարհի ավելի քան 3000 տեսակի մոծակներից միայն մի փոքր մասն է ներառված մարդկային արյուն ծծողների շարքում: Իմանալը, թե ինչպես են նրանք մարդկանց տարբերակում և ընտրում՝ արյուն քաշելու համար, կարևոր է, քանի որ այդ մոծակները ոչ միայն քոր են առաջացնում, այլև կրում են այնպիսի վտանգավոր հիվանդություններ, ինչպիսիք են՝ զիկան, դենգեն, Արևմտյան Նեղոսի վիրուսը և մալարիան, որոնք կարող են մահացու լինել: Նյութը վերցրել ենք «CNN»-ից:

-Մոծակները հիմնականում զոհին ընտրում են՝ ըստ հոտի, - ասել է Նյու Ջերսիի Պրինսթոնի նյարդաբանության ինստիտուտի էկոլոգիայի և էվոլյուցիոն կենսաբանության պրոֆեսոր Քերոլին ՄաքԲրայդը, ում լաբորատորիան կենտրոնացած է Aedes aegypti տեսակի մարդկանց խայթող մոծակների վրա:

Միայն իգական սեռի մոծակներն են արյուն ծծում, քանի որ ձվադրման համար նրանց արյուն է պետք:

Տևական հետազոտությունների ընթացքում, ՄաքԲրայդի թիմի անդամ Ջեսիկա Զանգը շուրջ 40 տարբեր կենդանիների հոտի նմուշներ է հավաքել: Դրանցից մի քանիսը 16 մարդկային օրինակների հետ համեմատելիս հետաքրքիր բան է պարզվել. պարզ և հասարակ միացություն դեկանալը շատ է, հատկապես, մարդու մաշկում:

Սեփական բակում մոծակների խայթոցից խուսափելու համար, ՄաքԲրայդը խորհուրդ է տալիս օդափոխիչ կիրառել:
