Նա իր ողջ ստեղծագործական կյանքը նվիրել է կինոյին, հայ կինոյին՝ թողնելով կինոօպերատորական արվեստի յուրօրինակ ընկալումներ: Նրա ուղին անցել է մոսկովյան հեղինակավոր կինոինստիտուտից՝ ՎԳԻԿ-ից մինչև «Հայֆիլմ» կինոստուդիայի լավագույն տարիներ, երբ ստեղծագործական կյանքը արվեստագետի սկզբունքների դրսևորման ուրույն ճանապարհ էր:
Նրա անունն ուղղակիորեն շաղկապված է հայ կինոյում հավերժորեն մնացած անհատականությունների՝ Յուրի Երզնկյանի, Կարեն Գևորգյանի, Ալբերտ Մկրտչյանի և այլոց ու նրանց կերտած ֆիլմերի ստեղծագործական ընթացքի հետ՝ այդ ընթացքում թողած եզակիորեն տարբերվող ձեռագրով, արվեստային մտահղացումներով:
«Խաթաբալա», «Այս կանաչ, կարմիր աշխարհը», «Շեկ ինքնաթիռ», «Խոհարարները եկել են մրցույթի», «Հին օրերի երգը», «Մեր մանկության տանգոն», «Գիշերում առկայծող կրակը», «Շնչառություն», «Ուրախ ավտոբուս», »Քրմուհին» և այլն: Ահա այն ֆիլմերի ոչ ամբողջական ցանկը, որոնցում առկա է Ռուդոլֆ Վաթինյան արվեստագետը, նրա կինոմտածողությունը, նրա կինոընկալումը:
Ռուդոլֆ Վաթինյանը երկար տարիներ զբաղեցրել է նաև ղեկավար պաշտոններ Հայաստանի կինեմատոգրաֆիստների միությունում՝ դրսևորելով կառավարչական, մարդկային, գործընկերային իր ունակություններն ու հմտությունները:
