Թուրքական «Ժողովրդավարություն և առաջընթաց կուսակցության» առաջնորդ Ալի Բաբաջանը դատապարտել է Մոնտրյոյի կոնվենցիան պաշպտպանող 103 նախկին ծովակալների կողմից Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանի արված հայտարարությունը, հայտնել է Ahval-ը` մանրամասնելով, որ պաշտոբաթող ծովակալները դեմ են Մոնտրյոյի կոնվենցիայից դուրս գալուն։

Նախկինում երկրի փոխվարչապետի, ԱԳ նախարարի պաշտոնները զբաղեցրած Բաբաջանն ասել է․ «Մեր պատմությունը լի է քաղաքականությանը ռազմական միջամտություններով»: 

Նա պնդել է, որ չի կարող հավանություն տալ նախկին ծովակալների հայտարարությանը, քանի որ վերջիններս բազմաթիվ հեղաշրջումներ են տեսել և պետք է գիտակցեն, թե ինչի կարող է հանգեցնել նման հայտարարությունը։ Բաբաջանն այս ասելով նկատի է ունեցել ռազմական հեղաշրջման սպառնալիքը:

Հիշեցնենք, որ թոշակի անցած 103 թուրք ծովակալ ավելի վաղ նամակ էր հրապարակել` զգուշացնելով իշխանություններին Մոնտրյոյի կոնվենցիայի դեմ որոշումներ չկայացնել: 1936 թվականին ընդունված կոնվենցիայով կարգավորվում է առևտրային նավերի երթևկությունը Բոսֆորի նեղուցով և Սև ծովով:

Երկրում մտավախություն է առաջացել, որ Էրդողանը կարող է դուրս գալ կոնվենցիայից: Դրա համար պատճառ է դարձել խորհրդարանի խոսնակ Մուստաֆա Շենթոփի հայտարարությունը, որի համաձայն` «նախագահն իրավունք ունի դա անել, եթե ցանկանա»:

Ավելի վաղ հաղորդվել էր, որ Թուրքիայում ոստիկանությունը ձերբակալել է թոշակի անցած 10 ծովակալի, որոնք ստորագրել էին Մոնտրյոյի կոնվենցիան պաշտպանող հավաքական նամակը:
