Уточняется, что атакованы места, где проживали командиры батальона и роты Бейт-Ханун, одной из рот в Газе и роты Аш-Шати. В публикации также указано, что некоторые здания использовали для хранения оружия.
Ситуация на границах Израиля и палестинских территорий обострилась вечером 10 мая после столкновений в Иерусалиме. По сведениям на 16 мая, с начала эскалации из сектора Газа по израильтянам выпустили 2,9 тысячи ракет, 1150 из них перехвачены. По последней информации, в Израиле погибли десять человек, около 50 серьезно ранены. Тель-Авив нанес сотни ответных ударов, число жертв с палестинской стороны достигло 192, среди них 58 детей.
Палестино-израильский конфликт насчитывает несколько десятилетий: стороны не могут поделить территории в районе Газы и в Иерусалиме. Также Палестина добивается признания своей государственности в рамках устраивающих ее границ. С 2007 года подконтрольными ей землями управляет исламистская организация ХАМАС.
