Ասում են՝ 2016 թ. հունվարին Սիրիայի նախագահ Բաշար ալ-Ասադը մեկնելու է Թեհրան և հանդիպելու Իրանի նախագահ Հասան Ռոհանիի, ինչպես նաև՝ այդ երկրի իշխանական վերնախավի այլ ներկայացուցիչների հետ: Սա 2011 թ. սկիզբ առած սիրիական հակամարտության ողջ ընթացքում երկրի նախագահի երկրորդ արտագնա այցն է լինելու. առաջինն այս տարվա հոկտեմբերին Մոսկվա կայացած անակնկալ այցելությունն էր:
Բաշար ալ-Ասադի հնարավոր այցն Իրան, անշուշտ, կանխատեսելի էր, և դրա նպատակն արդեն գալիք տարվա հունվարին մեկնարկելիք սիրիական հակամարտ կողմերի միջև ուղղակի բանակցային գործընթացին զուգահեռ Սիրիայի նախագահի դիրքերի ամրապնդումն է, ինչպես նաև նրա պետական գործունեության միջազգային լեգիտիմության ընդգծումն արդեն քաղաքական հարթությունում:
