«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է

Պանամա գլխարկը հանդիսանում է Էկվադորի ժողովրդի ազգային գլխարկը: Եվրոպա և Հյուսիսային Ամերիկա այս գլխարկը «եկել է» 19-րդ դարում, իսկ պանամա կոչվել է, քանի որ այն արտահանել են կազմակերպություններ, որոնք գտնվել են Պանամայում: Բացի այդ, Պանամայի ջրանցքի շինարարությունից վերադարձած բազմաթիվ աշխատողներ իրենց հետ տուն են տարել այդպիսի գլխարկ: Էկվադորում պանամա հյուսել և հյուսում են տոկիլա բույսի ծղոտից, որն աճում է միայն այդ տարածքում: Մեկ գլխարկի պատրաստումը կարող է տևել մինչև 6 ամիս, քանի որ տոկիլայից կարելի է հյուսել միայն արևածագին կամ մայրամուտին. օրվա այլ ժամերին ծղոտը չափազանց փխրուն է դառնում: Տոկիլայի բերքը ամսվա ընթացքում հավաքվում է միայն 5 օր:

Պանամա ի սկզբանե անվանել են միայն Մոնտե Քրիստի վայրում աճող տոկիլայից պատրաստված ծղոտե գլխարկները: Այդ գլխարկները պատրաստել են անհիշելի ժամանակներից: Էկվադորի ծովափերին կատարված պեղումների ժամանակ հայտնաբերվել են մեր թվարկությունից առաջ մոտավորապես 4000 թվականին վերագրվող հետաքրքիր գլխարկներով արձանիկներ: Որոշ գիտնականներ համարում են, որ գլխարկներ հյուսելու արվեստը Էկվադորի տեղաբնակները փոխառել են պոլոնեզացի տեղաբնակներից: Էկվադոր հասած առաջին իսպանացիները զարմացել են տոկիլայից հյուսված պանամայի թափանցիկությամբ և համոզված են եղել, որ դրանք պատրաստվում են վամպիրի կաշվից: Սկսած 16-րդ դարից՝ պանամաներ են հյուսվել մասսայաբար, բայց արդեն օգտագործվել է այլ տեքստիլ նյութ, որի թելերը ստացել են պանամական արմավենուց: Ներկայումս ևս հաճախ այդ նյութն է օգտագործվում պանամա հյուսելիս:

Բացի դա, օգտագործվում են նաև բազմաթիվ այլ նյութեր՝ սկսած սովորական կտորից: Տոկիլայից ևս հին տեխնոլոգիայով գլխարկներ Էկվադորում պատրաստում են, բայց նրանք շատ թանկ են և վաճառվում են միջինը 1000 ֆունտ ստեռլինգով: Երբ 19-րդ դարում պանամա գլխարկը հայտնվել է Անգլիայում, այն անմիջապես սիրվել է, քանի որ թագավորական ընտանիքը այն համարել է ամենահարմար ամառային գլխարկը և սկսել է օգտագործել: Այն նաև անփոխարինելի է դարձել տարբեր սպորտային միջոցառումների և բացօդյա պիկնիկների ժամանակ:

Իսկ երբ 1901 թվականին մահացել է Վիկտորիա թագուհին, առաջին անգամ պանամային ավելացվել է սև ժապավեն: Ամերիկայում ևս պանամա գլխարկը մեծ ճանաչում ունի: Սկզբից այն հանդիսանում էր Պանամայի ջրանցքի աշխատողների բանվորական հագուստի անբաժանելի մասը: 1906 թվականին ջրանցքի շինարարություն ժամանած ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Թեոդոր Ռուզվելտը լուսանկարվել է պանամայով, և դա դարձել է պանամա գլխարկի մասսայականացման սկիզբ ամերիկացիների համար:
