Չինաստանը գերձայնային հրթիռ է փորձարկել, որն ունակ է միջուկային զենք կրել: Financial Times-ի աղբյուրները հայտնել են, որ դա «անակնկալի է բերել» ամերիկյան հետախուզությանը: 

«Գաղտնի փորձարկումների ընթացքում հրթիռը թռչել է ցածր ուղեծրով տարածությունով, բայց չի կարողացել հասնել իր թիրախային նպատակին՝ անցնելով դրանից մի քանի տասնյակ կիլոմետր հեռավորության վրա: Չնայած դրան, հրթիռը ցույց է տվել գերձայնային զենքի մշակման զարմանալի առաջընթաց», - գրում է թերթը:

«Մենք գաղափար չունենք, թե ինչպես են նրանք դա արել», - ասել է ԱՄՆ հետախուզության աղբյուրը:

FT-ի աղբյուրները հայտնել են, որ հրթիռը տեսականորեն կարող է թռչել Հարավային բևեռի վրայով: Սա կարող է խնդիր դառնալ ԱՄՆ հակահրթիռային պաշտպանության համակարգի համար, որը կենտրոնացած է հյուսիսային բևեռային ուղղությամբ:

Պենտագոնը հրաժարվել է մեկնաբանել փորձարկումների մասին տեղեկատվությունը, սակայն մտահոգություն է հայտնել առհասարակ Չինաստանի ռազմական գործունեության վերաբերյալ: ԱՄՆ պաշտպանության նախարարության խոսնակ Ջոն Քիրբին ասել է, որ Չինաստանի ռազմական կարողությունները «սնում են լարվածությունը տարածաշրջանում և դրանից դուրս»:

ԱՄՆ-ում Չինաստանի դեսպանատան ներկայացուցիչ Լյու Պենգյուն նշել է, որ Չինաստանի ռազմական քաղաքականությունը պաշտպանական բնույթ ունի: Նրա խոսքով՝ Պեկինը «ԱՄՆ-ի նման չունի գլոբալ ռազմավարություն և ռազմական գործողությունների պլաններ»:

Նա կարծում է, որ ԱՄՆ-ն վերջին տարիներին «հորինել է չինական սպառնալիքի առասպելը»`արդարացնելու գերձայնային զենքի զարգացումը:
