Վրաստանի նախկին նախագահ Միխեիլ Սաակաշվիլին օգնության է դիմել Միացյալ Նահանգներին:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է «ՌԻԱ Նովոստի»-ն, ԱՄՆ Պետքարտուղարությունն ավելի վաղ կոչ էր արել Վրաստանի իշխանություններին թույլ տալ Սաակաշվիլիին ներկա գտնվել դատարանի բոլոր նիստերին և «արդար ու արժանաատիվ վարվել» նախկին նախագահի հետ:

«Եթե ԱՄՆ-ն չգա ինձ պաշտպանելու, դա ահավոր ազդակ կլինի բոլոր արևմտամետ առաջնորնդերի և ժողովուրդների համար»,- Bloomberg գործակալության տվյալներով՝ ասվում է Սաակաշվիլիի գրության մեջ:

Գործակալությունը նշում է, որ Սաակաշվիլին «հապճեպորեն ձեռքով գրված» պատասխանները փոխանցել է իր փաստաբանների միջոցով չորեքշաբթի: Վերջինս գրել է, որ բանտարկության ժամանակ իրեն ծեծել են և քաշ են տվել ասֆալտով՝ այլ կալանավորների «ծաղրանքների» ներքո: Սաակաշվիլին ուշադրություն է հավիրել նաև այն հանգամանքի վրա, որ իրեն հրաժարվել են քաղաքացիական հիվանդանոց տեղափոխել, հեռախոս տրամադրել կամ հնարավորություն տալ ներկա գտնվելու դատարանում:

Հիշեցնենք, որ Միխեիլ Սաակաշվիլիին ձերբակալել են հոկտեմբերի 1-ին, երբ վերջինս վերադարձել է Վրաստան՝ երկրում հոկտեմբերի 2-ին կայացած ՏԻՄ ընտրություններում ընդդիմադիր ուժերին աջակցելու համար: Ձերբակալման օրվանից Սաակաշվիլին հացադուլ է հայտարարել: Նախկին նախագահին երկրում հեռակա կարգով դատապարտել էին պատգամավորին ծեծի ենթարկելու և բանկիրի սպանության կազմակերպման համար: Բացի այդ, նրան մեղադրանք է ներկայացվել ևս մի քանի գործով, այդ թվում՝ պետական միջոցները մսխելու, լիազորությունների չարաշահման և երկրի սահմանն ապօրինաբար հատելու համար:
