Հայաստանի և Արցախի Ազգային հերոս Մոնթե Մելքոնյանը՝ Ավոն, այսօր կդառնար 64 տարեկան: 
 
Մոնթեն ծնվել է 1957 թվականին Մեծ Եղեռնից փրկված և ԱՄՆ Կալիֆոռնիայի Վայսեյլի ավանում հանգրվանած հայի ընտանիքում։ 22 տարեկանում լիովին տիրապետում էր անգլերենին, ֆրանսերենին, իսպաներենին, իտալերենին, թուրքերենին, պարսկերենին, ճապոներենին, քրդերենին։
 
1980 թվականից անդամագրվելով Հայաստանի ազատագրության հայ գաղտնի բանակին՝ Մոնթեն կարճ ժամանակում դարձել է նրա ղեկավարներից մեկը։ 1981-ի նոյեմբերի 11-ին Ֆրանսիայի Օռլի օդանավակայանում Ավոն ձերբակալվել է կեղծ անձնագիր և ատրճանակ կրելու մեղադրանքով։
 
Նա դատապարտվել է 4 ամսվա ազատազրկման, ավելի ուշ դատարանը որոշել է վտարել նրան Ֆրանսիայից։ 1985-ին Ավոն նորից կեղծ անձնագրով ժամանել է Ֆրանսիա և մի քանի ամիս անց կրկին ձերբակալվել ահաբեկչություն կազմակերպելու մեղադրանքով։ Մոնթեն բանտից դուրս է եկել 1989-ի հունվարի 16-ին։
 
1991-ին նա գալիս է Հայաստան, որտեղ արդեն սկսվել էին հայ-ադրբեջանական զինված ընդհարումները։ Նույն թվականի սեպտեմբերին մեկնում է Լեռնային Ղարաբաղ, որտեղ նրան անվանակոչում են Ավո մականունով։
 
1992-ին Մոնթեն ստանձնում է Մարտունու պաշտպանական շրջանի շտաբի պետի պարտականությունը։ Կարճ ժամանակում նա շահել է ոչ միայն տեղի բնակչության, այլև համայն հայության սերն ու հարգանքը։ 1993-ի մարտ-ապրիլին նրա ղեկավարությամբ ազատագրվեց Քարվաճառը:
 
Մոնթեն սպանվել է 1993-ի հունիսի 12-ին ադրբեջանական զրահամեքենայի կրակոցից, երբ հետախուզության նպատակով մարտընկերների հետ գնացել է Աղդամի շրջանի Մարզիլի գյուղի մատույցներ։
Մոնթեին են պատկանում հետեւյալ խոսքերը՝ «Եթե կորցնենք Արցախը, կշրջենք հայոց պատմության վերջին էջը», որի արժեքը, հիմա, առավել քան, արդիական է:
 
Մոնթե Մելքոնյանը հանգչում է «Եռաբլուր» զինվորական պանթեոնում: 
Անցած տարի այս օրը թշնամուն հանձնեցինք Քարվաճառն առանց կռվի, 5 օր անց՝ Քաշաթաղի հյուսիսային մասը։ Իսկ Մոնթեն այդպես չէր ցանկանում, պետք է վերստին հիշենք հերոսի խոսքը, այլապես կշրջենք մեր պատմության վերջին էջը։
