Ավետիք Չալաբյանի պաշտպանական խումբը դեռևս մայիսի 25-ին Ա. Չալաբյանի նկատմամբ կիրառված խափանման միջոցի փոփոխության վերաբերյալ՝ ՀՀ ԱԺ պատգամավորներ Սեյրան Օհանյանի, Իշխան Սաղաթելյանի, Էլինար Վարդանյանի, Հայկ Մամիջանյանի, Տիգրան Աբրահամյանի, ՀՀ նախկին փոխվարչապետ Վաչե Գաբրիելյանի և «Արար» հիմնադրամի երաշխավորություններով դիմել էր ՀՀ գլխավոր դատախազություն։ Երեկ դատախազը մերժեց Ավետիք Չալաբյանի նկատմամբ կիրառված խափանման միջոցի փոփոխության վերաբերյալ երաշխավորությունները:
«Հայաստան» դաշինքի անդամ, Պատմական գիտությունների դոկտոր, պրոֆեսոր Ռուբեն Մելքոնյանի կարծիքով՝ Չալաբյանի մտավոր ռեսուրսները պետք է պրոդուկտիվ օգտագործվեն.
«Քանի որ ես իրավաբան չեմ, չեմ կարող որևէ մասնագիտական մեկնաբանություն տալ, սակայն ծանոթ լինելով Ավետիք Չալաբյանի հետ՝ կարծում եմ, որ նա իր ինտելեկտուալ կարողությունները կարող է ի սպաս դնել Հայաստանին՝ հանուն մեր պետության շահերի, մանավանդ, որ Ավետիքը հրապարակային հայտնել է Հայաստանին օգնելու իր պատրաստակամությունը` այս իրավիճակից դուրս գալու համար։»,- Past.am-ի հետ զրույցում ասաց Մելքոնյանը:
Անդրադառնալով Չալաբյանի՝ կալանավայրից «Առավոտին» տված հարցազրույցին, որտեղ վերջինս տեսակետ է հայտնել, թե Արևմուտքը Հայաստանը դիտարկում է իբրև ՌԴ-ի դեմ երկրորդ ճակատի հնարավորություն, իսկ «Դիմադրության» շարժումը դրան խանգարում է, Մելքոնյանը նշեց.
«Ցանկացած իշխանության համար զսպող մեխանիզմները շատ կարևոր են՝ առավել ևս Հայաստանի համար, որն այժմ գտնվում է ծայրահեղ բարդ իրավիճակում, և որի իշխանությունները շատ հարցերում բավական հեռու են պրոֆեսիոնալիզմից և ունեն այնպիսի մոտեցումներ, որ հասարակության մեծ մասը չի կիսում։ Դասական քաղաքագիտական ճշմարտություն է, որ ցանկացած իշխանություն պետք է իր թիկունքին զգա ընդդիմության շունչը, որը նրան ավելի զգոն կդարձնի։
Մեր պարագայում դրա կարևորությունը եռապատկվում, տասնապատկվում է, և այս առումով Չալաբյանի դիտարկումները, «Դիմադրություն» շարժման քայլերը տարբեր դեպքերում բխում են մեր պետության շահերից, և եթե լինեն հմուտ դիվանագետներ և քաղաքական գործիչներ, ապա այս օրհասական իրավիճակում պետության համար եղած փոքրաթիվ հնարավորությունները կկարողանան օգտագործել ի նպաստ Հայաստանի։ Չալաբյանի դիտարկումները, կարծում եմ, շատ օգտակար կարող են լինել քաղաքական և քաղաքագիտական գործընթացներում»։
