Պենտագոնի ղեկավար Լլոյդ Օսթինը հայտարարել է, որ ԱՄՆ վարչակազմն այս փուլում հիմքեր չի տեսնում ենթադրելու, որ Ռուսաստանի իշխանությունները որոշել են միջուկային զենք կիրառել Ուկրաինայում։ Այս մասին նա հայտարարել է CNN-ին տված հարցազրույցում։

«Այս փուլում ես ոչինչ չեմ տեսնում, որը կստիպի ինձ եզրակացնել, որ նա [Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը] նման որոշում է կայացրել», - ասել է Օսթինը:

Նրա խոսքով, ԱՄՆ-ը Ռուսաստանի հետ բարձր մակարդակի վերջին շփումներում հայտնել է իր մտահոգությունը Մոսկվայի կողմից միջուկային զենք կիրառելու հնարավորության վերաբերյալ։

Նախօրեին ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Էնթոնի Բլինկենն ասել էր, որ ԱՄՆ-ը միջուկային զենքի վերաբերյալ Ռուսաստանի հայտարարություններին «շատ լուրջ» է վերաբերվում։ Սակայն, ըստ նրա, այսօր իրենք չեն տեսնում Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության կողմից միջուկային զենքի կիրառման պատրաստության նշաններ։

Ավելի վաղ Ուկրաինայի նախագահի գրասենյակի ղեկավարի խորհրդական Միխայիլ Պոդոլյակը հայտարարել էր, որ չի տեսնում հակամարտությունը միջուկայինի վերածվելու վտանգ, սակայն նման սպառնալիք հնարավոր է։

Մինչ այդ ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը հայտնել էր, որ Ռուսաստանի «միջուկային շանտաժը», որն օգտագործում են ՆԱՏՕ-ի երկրները, կարող է աղետի վերածվել նաև իրենց դեմ։
