Անտարկտիդայում գոյություն ունի ակտիվ հրաբուխ
Առաջին հայացքից կարող է թվալ, որ սա կղզի է, ինչպես մյուսները, սակայն այն փաստը, որ այն ամբողջությամբ ձյունով չի ծածկված, պետք է ձեր ուշադրությունը գրավի: Անտարկտիդայում է գտնվում Էրեբուս լեռը, որը ամենակտիվ հրաբուխն է մոլորակի վրա: Վերջին անգամ այն ժայթքել է 1960-ականներին:

Քանի որ Անտարկտիդան հիմնականում անմարդաբնակ է և գտնվում է միջազգային կառավարման ներքո, մայրցամաքը պաշտոնապես բաժանված չէ ժամային գոտիների: Հետազոտական կայաններն ընտրում են, թե որ ժամային գոտուն կապակցեն՝ այն երկիրը, որը ֆինանսավորում է դրանք, թե այն երկիրը, որն աշխարհագրորեն ամենամոտ է իրենց բազային (օրինակ՝ Չիլիում):

Անապատը սահմանվում է որպես տարածք, որտեղ տարեկան 254 մմ-ից պակաս տեղումներ են լինում: Միջին հաշվով, Անտարկտիդան ստանում է 50 մմ-ից պակաս: Անտարկտիդայի որոշ հատվածներ ձյուն կամ անձրև չեն ստացել ավելի քան 2 միլիոն տարի: Որպես աշխարհի ամենաչոր մայրցամաքը, Անտարկտիդան մոլորակի ամենամեծ անապատն է: Սահարան երբեք նման երաշտ չի տեսել:
Արգենտինան ուղարկել է հղի կնոջը՝ ծննդաբերելու այնտեղ, որպեսզի հավակնի մայրցամաքի մի հատվածին
Սա տեղի է ունեցել 1977թ.: Մի քանի ամիս անց այնտեղ ծնվեց փոքրիկ տղան՝ Էմիլիո Մարկոս Պալման։ Նա առաջին հայտնի մարդն է, ով ծնվել է մայրցամաքում: Անտարկտիդայի պայմանագիրն արդեն երաշխավորում էր տարածքի միջազգային կառավարումը, սակայն Արգենտինան հույս ուներ, որ այնտեղ ծնված քաղաքացիները ավելի օրինական կդարձնեն իր պահանջները: 1978-ից 1983 թվականներին Անտարկտիդայում ծնվել են 8 արգենտինացի երեխաներ։

Դուք կարող եք մտածել, որ այստեղ ջերմաստիճանը շատ ավելի ցածր է, քան երկրագնի որևէ այլ երկրում: Բայց զբոսաշրջային նավերը այցելում են Անտարկտիդա նոյեմբերից մարտ ամիսներին, երբ ամառը հարավային կիսագնդում է, և հիմնականում գնում են մայրցամաքի հյուսիսային մաս: Թերակղզու այս տարածքում ջերմաստիճանը տատանվում է -2°C-ից մինչև 2°C: Եթե ցանկանում եք ավելի հարավ ճանապարհորդել ձմռան կեսին, ապա պետք է լավ պատրաստված լինեք: Այս վայրերում ամենացածր ջերմաստիճանը գրանցվել է 2010 թվականին՝ որպես ամենացածրն աշխարհում՝ -92 °C:
