Ֆուտբոլի աշխարհի 22-րդ առաջնությունը մեկնարկեց Կատար-Էկվադոր խաղով:
Էկվադորի հավաքականը հանդիպման 3-րդ րոպեին գոլ խփեց, սակայն մրցավարը խաղային իրավիճակի վերանայման արդյունքում խաղից դուրս իրավիճակ գրանցեց և չեղարկեց գնդակը:
Էկվադորին հաջողվեց բացել հանդիպման հաշվին արդեն 16-րդ րոպեին: Սեփական տուգանային հրապարակում կանոնները խախտեց Կատարի դարպասապահը: Նշանակված 11 մետրանոց հարվածն անվրեպ իրացրեց Էներ Վալենսիան, ով խփել էր նաև իր թիմի չեղարկված գնդակը:
Հանդիպման 32-րդ րոպեին նույն Վալենսիան, մրցակցի տուգանային հրապարակում հայտնվելով ճիշտ ժամանակին, ճիշտ տեղում գլխի հարվածով կրկնապատկեց իր թիմի առավելությունը (0:2):
Երկրորդ կեսի մեկնարկին Կատարը սկսեց առավել շատ տիրել գնդակին և երբեմն-երբեմն սուր գրոհել: Էկվադորը միայն արագ հակագրոհում էր: Այս խաղակեսում դարպասի գրավում այդպես էլ չարձանագրվեց:

Խմբի մյուս հանդիպումը կկայանա նոյեմբերի 26-ին` Սենեգալը կխաղա Նիդերլանդների հետ: Խաղը կմեկնարկի Երևանի ժամանակով 20:00-ին:
A խմբի երկրորդ տուրում Կատարի հավաքականը նոյեմբերի 25-ին կխաղա Սենեգալի, իսկ Էկվադորը նոյեմբերի 26-ին` Նիդերլանդների հետ:
