Աշխարհի առաջնության Արգենտինա - Ֆրանսիա եզրափակիչի հիմնական ժամանակն ավարտվեց ոչ ոքի՝ 2:2: Թիմերը պայքարը կշարունակեն լրացուցիչ ժամանակում։
Առաջին խաղակեսում 2:0 հաշվով հաղթել էր Լիոնել Սկալոնիի գլխավորած Արգենտինայի հավաքականը։
5-րդ րոպեին առաջինը դարպասին հարված կատարեց Արգենտինան։ Անգլիական «Բրայթոնի» 23-ամյա կիսապաշտպան Ալեքսիս Մաք Ալիսթերը հեռվից հարվածեց եւ Ֆրանսիայի հավաքականի ու Լոնդոնի «Տոտենհեմի» 35-ամյա դարպասապահ Ուգո Լյորիսը որսաց գնդակը։
9-րդ րոպեին անկյունայինից հետո կողոսկրերի արմունկով հարված ստացա Ուգո Լյորիսը։ Կանոնները խախտեց նրա ակումբակից, Լոնդոնի «Տոտենհեմի» 24-ամյա պաշտպան Կրիստիան Ռոմերոն։
17-րդ րոպեին աջ եզրով սուր գրոհ կազմակերպեց Արգենտինայի հավաքականը։ Մադրիդի «Աթլետիկոյի» 28-ամյա կիսապաշտպան Ռոդրիգո դե Պոլի փոխանցումից հետո Թուրինի «Յուվենտուսի» 34-ամյա հարձակվող Անխել Դի Մարիան բարձր հարվածեց։
19-րդ րոպեին գրեթե դիմային գծի մոտ տուգանային հարվածի իրավունք ստացավ Ֆրանսիան։ Մադրիդի «Աթլետիկոյի» 31-ամյա հարձակվող Անտուան Գրիզմանն իրացրեց տուգանայինը։ Իտալիայի չեմպիոն «Միլանի» 36-ամյա հարձակվող Օլիվիե Ժիրուն գլխի հարված կատարեց, բայց բարձր էր, նաեւ խախտում էր գրանցվել հարձակվող թիմի կողմից։
21-րդ րոպեին Անխել Դի Մարիայի նկատմամբ սեփական տուգանային հրապարակում կանոնները խախտեց «Բարսելոնայի» 25-ամյա հարձակվող Ուսման Դեմբելեն եւ նշանակվեց 11-մետրանոց Ֆրանսիայի դարպասին։
ՊՍԺ-ի 35-ամյա հարձակվող Լիոնել Մեսին հստակ իրացրեց 11-մետրանոցը՝ բացելով հաշիվը (տեսանյութ)։
Արգենտինայի թիմի առավելությունը 36-րդ րոպեին կրկնապատկեց Անխել Դի Մարիան, որը եզրափակեց կիսապաշտպան Ալեքսիս Մաք Ալիսթերի փոխանցումը (տեսանյութ)։
Առաջին խաղակեսում հսկայական առավելություն ուներ Արգենտինան՝ գնդակի 62 տոկոս վերահսկողությամբ, 6 գոլային պահերով, դարպասին կատարած 3 հարվածով։ Ֆրանսիան ոչ մի գոլային պահ չստեղծեց, ոչ մի հարված դարպասի ուղղությամբ չկատարեց։
