Հայաստանում ԱՄՆ նախկին դեսպան Ջոն Էվանսը կարծում է, որ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հայերի ճակատագիրը հարկավոր է վերադարձնել բանակցությունների սեղանի շուրջ: Այս մասին գրված է նրա թվիթերյան էջում։
«Որպես Երևանում ԱՄՆ նախկին դեսպան՝ ես այլևս չունեմ նշանակալի շփումներ Պետքարտուղարությունում կամ Սպիտակ տանը: Այնուամենայնիվ, ես իշխանություն ունեցող բոլոր անձանց, այդ թվում՝ ադրբեջանցի և թուրք պաշտոնյաներին, կոչ եմ անում անել հնարավոր ամեն բան Ղարաբաղի հայերի ճակատագիրը բանակցությունների սեղանի շուրջ վերադարձնելու համար», - գրել է Էվանսը:
Ջոն Էվանսը Հայաստանում ԱՄՆ արտակարգ և լիազոր դեսպանն է եղել 2004-2006 թթ.-ին: Նա ազատվել էր դեսպանի պաշտոնից ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ջորջ Բուշի հրամանագրով: Ըստ շրջանառվող տեղեկությունների՝ դրա պատճառ է դարձել այն, որ Էվանսը խոսել էր հօգուտ Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման: Էվանսը 2016 թ.-ին հրապարակել է իր գիրքը Հայոց ցեղասպանության և այդ հարցում ԱՄՆ կառավարության քաղաքականության վերաբերյալ՝ «Պատանդ վերցված ճշմարտություն. Ամերիկան և Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը» խորագրով:
