Զենք գնողների կենսագրությունների ստուգումների շնորհիվ հնարաավոր կլինի նվազեցնել ԱՄՆ –ում բռնության մակարդակը: Այս մասին հունվարի 5-ին հայտնել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման: Նրա խոսքով, «զենքի լոբբին կարող է ազդել ԱՄՆկոնգրե՛սի վրա, բայց այն չի կարող պատանդ պահել ամերիկյան հասարակությանը»:
ԱՄՆ –ում զենք կրելու իրավունքը երաշխավորված է Սահմանադրության երկրորդ սրբագրումով: Ավելի վաղ Օբաման վստահություն էր հայտնել, որ կհաջողվի գտնել հրազենային զենքի կիրառումով բռնության մակարդակը նվազեցնելու այնպիսի ուղիներ, որոնք կհամապատասխանեն այդ սահմանադրական իրավունքին:
Նախագահը բազմիցս փորձել է որոշ սահմանափակումներ մտցնել զենք կրելու հարցում, բայց կոնգրեսը արգելափակել է այդ նախաձեռնությունները: Հիմա Օբաման կիրառում է իր նախագահական լիազորությունները՝ կոնգրեսի շրջանցումով, որպեսզի անցկացնի զենք կրելու սահմանափակումների բարեփոխումը, հայտնում է «ՌԻԱ Նովոստին»:
