Լյուդվիգ վան Բեթհովենի մահվանից մոտ 200 տարի հետո հետազոտողները նրա մազերի մի փնջի միջոցով ԴՆԹ ուսումնասիրություն են կատարել՝ այն հույսով, որ կկարողանան պարզել, թե ինչից կարող էին առաջանալ նրա առողջական խնդիրներն ու լսողության կորուստը։

Նրանք չեն կարողացել լուծել գերմանացի մեծ կոմպոզիտորի խլության եւ ստամոքսի լուրջ հիվանդությունների հանելուկը։ Սակայն հայտնաբերել են գենետիկ նախատրամադրվածություն լյարդի հիվանդության հանդեպ եւ լյարդը քայքայող հեպատիտ В-ի հետքեր նրա կյանքի վերջին ամիսներին։

Այս գործոնները, Բեթհովենի քրոնիկական ալկոհոլիզմի հետ միասին, հավանաբար, բավական են եղել, որպեսզի առաջ բերեն երիկամային անբավարարություն, որից, ինչպես կարծում են շատերը, նա մահացել է։

Այս մասին նշվել է չորեքշաբթի Current Biology ամսագրում հրապարակված հետազոտությունում։

Այս կիրակի լրանում է Բեթհովենի մահվան 196 տարին (մահացել է Վիեննայում 1827թ. մարտի 26-ին, 56 տարեկանում)։ Կոմպոզիտորն ինքը գրել է, որ կցանկանար, որպեսզի բժիշկներն ուսումնասիրեն իր առողջական խնդիրները մահվանից հետո։

Սակայն գլխավոր հարցը, որը դարձել է Բեթհովենի խլության պատճառը, դեռ անպատասխան է մնում, ասել է բժիշկ Աբրահամ Կուպերը Օհայոյի համալսարանից, որը հետազոտությանը չի մասնակցել։
