Նախօրեին հրազենային վիրավորումից մահացած Գրանիկ Վարդանի Խնկոյանը Շիրակի մարզի Բենիամին գյուղից էր, զորակոչվել էր հունվար ամսին, ծառայում էր Արարատում: NEWS.am-ի հետ զրույցում Բենիամին վարչական շրջանի ղեկավար Արտակ Անտոնյանը հայտնեց, որ, ըստ պաշտոնական վարկածի, Գրանիկը ինքնասպան է եղել, սակայն դեռ մանրամասների չի տիրապետում:

«Գրանիկը Արարատում էր ծառայում, ճիշտն ասած լսել էի, որ երեկ մի դեպք էլ է եղել, բայց չեմ կարող ասել, թե ինչ է պատահել, մանրամասների չեմ տիրապետում: Գրանիկը մի քանի օր առաջ արձակուրդ էր եկել, տեսել եմ իրեն, խոսել, գոհ էր ծառայությունից: Իրենք յուրահատուկ ընտանիք են, իրենից փոքր երկու եղբայր էլ ունի Գրանիկը, հայրն ու մայրն էլ գյուղատնտեսական աշխատանքներով են զբաղվում: Գրանիկը շնորհքով, աշխատասեր երեխա էր, անհավատալի է, երեկ առավոտ էլ հոր հետ էր խոսել, ասել էր, որ ամեն ինչ նորմալ է»,- ասաց նա:

Գյուղապետը չի հավատում ինքնասպանության վարկածին, քանի որ ճանաչում է Գրանիկ Խնկոյանին. ասում է, որ որեւէ վատ սովորություն չի ունեցել. «Ճանաչում էի իրեն, այդ երեխան խելոք, աշխատասեր երեխա էր, վատ սովորություններ չուներ, ի՞նչը պետք է պատճառ լիներ, որ ինքնասպանություն գործեր, չեմ կարողանում հասկանալ: Ուղղակի ափսոս է, որ խաղաղ վիճակում զինվոր է զոհվում»:
