Երբ Զևսը փախցրեց Եվրոպային, գերվել էր աղջկա հրաշք գեղեցկությամբ։ Աղջիկը իսկապես լավն էր, Զևսն ու Եվրոպան հոյակապ սերունդ տվեցին․․․
Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպական փիլիսոփայություն, մենք տեսնում էինք Պլատոնին և Արիստոտելին, Կանտին և Հեգելին․․․ Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպական երաժշտություն՝ Բեթհովենին և Մոցարտին, Վագներին և Վերդիին․․․ Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպական գրականություն՝ Շեքսպիրին և Սերվանտեսին, Մոլիերին և Շիլլերին․․․ Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպացի քաղաքական գործիչներ՝ Գլադստոնին և Բիսմարկին, Դը Գոլին և Ադենաուերին․․․ Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպական քաջություն՝ խիզախ և ահարկու վիկինգներին, որոնց մասին պատմությունները մինչ օրս բորբոքում են մեր երևակայությունը․․․ Երբ ասում էինք եվրոպական բարոյականություն՝ գեղեցիկ օրիորդների համար իրենց գլուխները զոհելու պատրաստ ասպետներին․․․
Իսկ հիմա՞, ի՞նչ ենք տեսնում, ո՞րն է եվրոպական փիլիսոփայությունը (սպառողական մտածելակերպը, թե՞ «ինչպես կուզեմ, այնպես կապրեմ»), ո՞րն է եվրոպական երաժշտությունը (վայրենի երաժշտությամբ զանգվածներին խենթացնող երգիչնե՞րը), ո՞րն է եվրոպական գրականությունը՝ (էրոտիկան որպես կուռք հայտարարած գրողնե՞րը), ովքե՞ր են եվրոպական քաղաքական դեմքերը (Ռամպյո՞, Բառո՞զու, Քե՞մերոն․․․), ու՞ր է եվրոպական խիզախությունը, երբ տղամարդկանց աչքերի առաջ թքում և բռնաբարում են իրենց կանանց... ու՞ր է եվրոպական բարոյականությունը․ հոմոսեքսուալիզմի և ուրիշ այլասեռվածությունների մեջ խրված, մանկապիղծների իրավունքները պաշտպանող, «հայր» և «մայր» բառերը շրջանառությունից հանող կոնչիտայանման զանգվածի մե՞ջ...
Շպենգլերը կարծես թե իրավացի էր։ Եվրոպական քաղաքակրթության մայրամուտը տեսանելի է։ Երևի պատահական չէ, որ, ըստ որոշ լեզվաբանների, «Եվրոպա» նշանակում է «մայրամուտ»։ Եվրոպայում արևը աստիճանաբար մայր է մտնում։
