Ճապոնիայի ափերի մոտ 5,7 մագնիտուդ ուժգնությամբ երկրաշարժ է գրանցվել. այդ մասին հայտնել է ԱՄՆ երկրաբանական ծառայությունը։
Երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնը գտնվել է Տատեյամա քաղաքից 483,7 կմ հարավ-արևելք, որտեղ ապրում է 50 հազար մարդ։ Օջախը ընկել է 12,7 կմ խորության վրա։
