«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Թիավարության սլալոմում մրցակցության իմաստը լեռնային գետերով, ջրանցքներով կամ արհեստականորեն ստեղծված ջրամբարներով արագընթաց նավարկելն է: Հաղթում է այն մարզիկը, որն ամենաքիչ ժամանակն է ծախսում վայրէջքի վրա։ Սլալոմի բայդարկաները փոխառված են հեռավոր հյուսիսի բնակիչներից, որոնք առաջին անգամ ստեղծել են ամբողջովին ծածկված նավակ՝ թիավարողի համար մեկ անցքով: Պարզվել է, որ այն շատ հարմարավետ է թիավարելու և մանևրելու համար: 19-րդ դարում շոտլանդացի էնտուզիաստ Ջոն Մաքգրեգորը նախագծել է էսկիմոսների բայդարկաների նման նավակ, սկսել է ճանապարհորդել դրանով Եվրոպայի գետերով և այդ ամենը մանրամասն նկարագրել իր գրքերում։

Մակգրեգորի ճամփորդություններից ոգեշնչված՝ հայտնվել են էքստրեմալ մարդիկ, որոնք նոր զգացողություններ և ադրենալին փնտրելով՝ սկսել են նման նավակներով նավարկել արագընթաց գետերում։ Թիավարության սլալոմն ի սկզբանե անցկացվել է «հարթ» ջրի վրա, բայց հետո այն արագորեն տեղափոխվել է արագ հոսանքներ ունեցող գետեր, քանի որ դրանք են գնահատվել մարզիկների կողմից: 20-րդ դարի 30-ականները եվրոպական երկրներում դարձել են թիավարման սլալոմի ակտիվ զարգացման ժամանակաշրջան: Դա հանգեցրել է նրան, որ 1932 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 11-ին թիավարության սլալոմը հռչակվել է անկախ մարզաձև։ Նոր սպորտաձևի նկատմամբ հետաքրքրությունը տարեցտարի աճել է:

Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի իրադարձությունները կասեցրել են դրա զարգացումը, բայց արդեն 1947 թվականին առաջին անգամ անցկացվել է Եվրոպայի առաջնություն, իսկ 2 տարի անց Շվեյցարիայի Ժնև քաղաքում տեղի է ունեցել աշխարհի առաջին առաջնությունը։

Թիավարման սլալոմի էվոլ յուցիան պայմանականորեն կարելի է բաժանել 3 փուլի: Առաջին փուլի (1949-1972 թթ.) հիմնական առանձնահատկությունը հզոր կարկասային նավակների փոխարինումն էր թեթև և ամուր ապակեպլաստե նավակներով: Երկրորդ փուլում (1972-1992 թթ.) մրցութային կանոններն են վերանայվել և պարզեցվել, ու այն 1972 թվականին ընդգրկվել է Օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում։ Սակայն բոլոր մրցանակային տեղերը գրավել են Գերմանիայի ներկայացուցիչները։ Արդյունքում այդ սպորտաձևը չի ընդգրկվել 1976 թվականի Օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում, և դա շարունակվել է մինչև 1992 թվականը: Նույն ժամանակահատվածում կառուցվածքային փոփոխություններ են կատարվել՝ թիավարներին նավակի կենտրոն տեղափոխելու առումով։ Երրորդ փուլը (1992 թվականից առ այսօր) բնութագրվում է Օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում թիավարության սլալոմի վերաընդգրկմամբ։

Որպես ինքնուրույն մարզաձև՝ թիավարման սլալոմն այսօր շարունակում է հանրաճանաչություն ձեռք բերել աշխարհի շատ երկրներում։ Դրան նպաստում է բնության հետ մերձեցումը, դրական հույզերը և արյան մեջ ադրենալինի ներարկումը արագընթաց ջրի հոսքերի հետ պայքարելու միջոցով:
