Նոյեմբերի 16-ին նշվում է Հանդուրժողականության միջազգային օրը

1995 թվականի նոյեմբերի 16-ին ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի անդամ երկրներն ընդունել են հանդուրժողականության սկզբունքների հռչակագիրը: 1996 թվականից ՄԱԿ-ի Գլխավոր Վեհաժողովի առաջարկությամբ նոյեմբերի 16-ը նշվում է որպես Հանդուրժողականության միջազգային օր (International Day for Tolerance):
Հանդուրժողականության միջազգային օրը նպատակ ունի իրազեկել հասարակությանը անհանդուրժողականության և խտրականության, դրանց դրսևորումների և հնարավոր վնասակար հետևանքների մասին: Այս օրվա տոնակատարություններն ու միջոցառումները ներառում են հասարակություններում ատելության և թշնամանքի վերացմանն ուղղված մի շարք գործողություններ։ Այս օրը աշխարհի մի շարք երկրներում նշվում է հանդուրժողականության գնահատման, ճնշումների ու անարդարության վերացման համար բանավեճերով ու ելույթներով, կրթական հաստատություններում, սոցիալական ֆորումներում, լրատվամիջոցներում և քաղհասարակության շրջանում հանդուրժողականության մասին իրազեկման արշավներով և այլ հետաքրքիր և կարևոր միջոցառումներով։
Ըստ հռչակագրի՝ հանդուրժողականություն նշանակում է հարգել, ընդունել և ճիշտ հասկանալ աշխարհի մշակույթների հարուստ բազմազանությունը, ինքնարտահայտման ձևերն ու մարդկային անհատականության միջոցները։ Հռչակագիրը սահմանում է, որ «մարդիկ իրենց բնույթով տարբերվում են արտաքին տեսքով, դիրքով, խոսքով, վարքագծով և արժեքներով, իրավունք ունեն ապրել աշխարհում և պահպանել իրենց անհատականությունը»[4]։
Հռչակագիրը դիտարկում է անհանդուրժողականության հետևանքով մարդկությանը սպառնացող վտանգները, առաջարկում անհանդուրժողականության դեմ պայքարի մեթոդներ և ծրագրեր։
