«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Ֆրանսիական մեծ կամեան՝ զարդաքանդակը, պատրաստված է հինգշերտ սարդոնիքսից և թվագրվում է մեր թվարկության մոտ 23 թվականով: Այն ամենախոշոր հայտնի անտիկ զարդաքանդակն է։ Զարդաքանդակի վրա պատկերված է Տիբերիոս կայսեր ընտանիքը։ Դրա ծագման ստույգ վայրն անհայտ է։ Ենթադրվում է, որ այն եղել է Բյուզանդիայում և հետագայում ձեռք է բերվել Սենթ Լուիսի կողմից Լատինական Կայսրության կայսր Բալդուին 2-րդից, երբ նա վաճառում էր բյուզանդական կայսրերի սուրբ մասունքները: Զարդաքանդակի շրջանակը, որը կորել է 1804 թվականին, վկայել է, որ այն կազմել է զարդաքանդակների խմբի մաս և եղել է թանկարժեք քարերով զարդարված հարթ, մեծ զարդաքանդակի կենտրոնական տարրը: Ֆրանսիական մեծ զարդաքանդակի գոյության առաջին փաստագրական վկայությունը Սենտ-Շապել գանձարանի գույքագրումն է 1279 թվականին։

Այն հայտնի է եղել որպես «Հովսեփի հաղթանակը Եգիպտոսում» զարդաքանդակ (fr. Triomphe de Joseph en Egypte), քանզի ենթադրվում էր, որ այն պատկերում է Հովսեփ Գեղեցիկի հաղթանակի տեսարանը եգիպտական փարավոնի արքունիքում։ 1343 թվականին Պապը ցանկություն է հայտնել տեսնել այն, և Ֆիլիպ 6– րդը զարդաքանդակը ուղարկել է Հռոմ, որտեղ էլ այն գտնվել է հաջորդ 20 տարիներին: Մոտ 1363 թվականին Դոֆինին՝ Ֆրանսիայի ապագա թագավոր Չարլզ 5-րդին հաջողվել է վերադարձնել զարդաքանդակը, և 1379 թվականին այն կրկին տեղադրվել է ՍենտՇապելում, որտեղ էլ մնացել է մինչև 1791 թվականը։ 17-րդ դարում բացահայտվել է ֆրանսիական մեծ զարդաքանդակի իրական իմաստը. ֆրանսիացի գիտնական Նիկոլա-Կլոդ Պեյրեսկը հռոմեացի հնագետ և բանաստեղծ Ջիրոլամո Ալենդրոյին ուղղված իր նամակում, որը թվագրված է 1620 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 23-ով, նույնականացրել է դրա վրա պատկերված բոլոր կերպարները և այն կապել Տիբերիոս կայսեր անվան հետ։

Զարդաքանդակի քննարկումը դարձել է նկարիչ Ռուբենսի հետ Պեյրեսկի նամակագրության ամենակարևոր թեմաներից մեկը։ 1791 թվականին Ֆրանսիայի թագավորը որոշել է զարդաքանդակը ներառել իր շքանշանների հավաքածուում։ Բայց 1804 թվականին այն գողացել են։ Չնայած մեկ տարի անց այն վերադարձվել է, բայց թանկարժեք շրջանակը կորել է։ Ֆրանսիական մեծ զարդաքանդակի կոմպոզիցիան ներառում է 24 անձ, որոնք տեղակայված են երեք մակարդակներում: Պատկերված անձանցից մի քանիսը մինչ օրս էլ անհայտ են, բայց, ընդհանուր առմամբ, խմբում պատկերված են ՋուլիանԿլաուդյան դինաստիայի անդամները։ Կոմպոզիցիան խորհրդանշում է կայսերական ընտանիքի օրինականությունն ու միասնությունը։ Վերին մակարդակը Օլիմպոսն է. այնտեղ պատկերված են հանգուցյալները՝ աստվածացված Օկտավիանոս Օգոստոսը՝ կենտրոնում, Դրուզը՝ ձախից, Պեգասե Գերմանիկը՝ աջից:

Միջին մակարդակը զբաղեցնում են այդ ժամանակ կենդանի անձինք՝ կենտրոնում Տիբերիուսն է՝ ձեռքին երկար ձող և լիտուուս, և նրա մայրը՝ Լիվիա Դրուսիլլան։ Նրանց կողքին է Ներոն Հուլիոս Կեսար Գերմանիկուսը՝ Գերմանիկոսի որդեգրած որդին և Անտոնիա Կրտսերը։ Աջ կողմում Գերմանիկուսի կրտսեր որդին է՝ Դրուսուս Հուլիոս Կեսարը։ Հեռավոր ձախ եզրին Ագրիպինա Ավագը և նրա փոքր որդի Կալիգուլան է՝ զրահի կույտը տրորելիս: Ստորին մակարդակը զբաղեցնում են պարտված բարբարոսները՝ պարթևները՝ փռյուգիական գլխարկներով, և երկարամազ գերմանացիները։
