Ս. Ատոմյանք յուրաքանչյուր քրիստոնյայի համար լավագույն օրինակ են: Նրանք կյանքի բոլոր դժվարությունները հաղթահարել են Տիրոջ օգնությամբ և հովանավորությամբ: Ատոմյանց հայազգի զորավարները` Ատոմ Գնունին և Մանաճիհր Ռշտունին, իրենց գնդերով ծառայության մեջ էին Պարսից արքունիքում կռապաշտ Հազկերտ թագավորի օրոք:

Մոգպետերի հրահրմամբ, Հազկերտը սկսում է հալածել քրիստոնյաներին` Պարսկաստանում քրիստոնեությունն արմատախիլ անելու նպատակով: Ատոմյանց քրիստոնյա զորավարները հրովարտակ են ստանում Հազկերտից, որով վերջինս նրանց իրենց զորագնդերով հանդերձ կանչում է արքունիք` դավանափոխ անելու մտադրությամբ:

Հայոց զորավարները սկզբում հնազանդվում են, սակայն, քաջատեղյակ լինելով թագավորի նախապատրաստած որոգայթին, հայրենիք են վերադառնում և ապաստանում Անձևացյաց գավառում: Տեղեկանալով հետապնդող պարսից մեծաքանակ բանակի մասին` Ս. Ատոմ Գնունու երանելի զինվորները, գոտեպնդված լեռնաբնակ ճգնակյաց մի սրբի մարգարեությամբ և Ատոմի գիշերային տեսիլքով, որոշում են կամավոր նահատակվել:

Պարսից զորքը, հասնելով հայոց զորավարներին, շրջապատում և սրախողխող են անում Քրիստոսին խոստովանող և փառաբանող, սաղմոսերգությամբ մարտիրոսության գնացող սրբերին: Իսկ Ս. Մանաճիհր Ռշտունին իր ուղեկիցներով հասնում է հայրենի Ռշտունիք և 449 թվականին նահատակվում։
