«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Եվրոպայի ավանդական գինեգործական տարածաշրջանները համարվում են միջերկրածովյան երկրները՝ Հունաստանը, Իտալիան, Ֆրանսիան, Իսպանիան և Պորտուգալիան։ Այնուամենայնիվ, Եվրոպայում գինի են պատրաստում (և բարձրորակ գինի) նաև այլ շրջաններում։ Այդպիսի շրջաններից է Ռեյն գետի հովիտը։ Ոմանք կարող են մտածել, որ այդ լայնություններում լավ գինի չի կարելի պատրաստել, բայց դա թյուր կարծիք է։ Ռեյնի հովտում առաջին խաղողի այգիները տնկվել են կելտական ցեղերի կողմից: Պարզվում է, որ այդ տարածաշրջանում գինի սկսել են պատրաստել ավելի քան երկու հազար տարի առաջ, ինչը նշանակում է, որ տեղի կլիման լավն է խաղողի վազի համար։ Ժամանակին կելտերը վտարվել են հռոմեացիների կողմից, և նրանք ևս շարունակել են խաղողի այգիներ տնկել և պատրաստել այդ ըմպելիքը: Մեր թվարկության 3-րդ դարից սկսած հռոմեացիներին և մնացած կելտերին սկսել են տեղահանել գերմանական ցեղերը։

Սկզբում հյուսիսի այդ բնակիչները գինեգործության հետ կապված խնդիրներ ունեին։ Նրանք տարածաշրջանում նորից սկսել են գինի պատրաստել միայն 8-րդ դարի վերջին։ Հետագա դարերի ընթացքում Ռեյնի գինու ժողովրդականությունը կայուն աճել է: Ռեյնվայնի պատմության մեջ, թերևս, ամենակարևոր իրադարձությունը տեղի է ունեցել 1775 թվականին, երբ բորբոսասունկ է սկսել տարածվել Յոհաննեսբերգ լեռան լանջերին գտնվող խաղողի այգիներում։ Սակայն առանց վանքի վանահոր թույլտվության, որի հողատարածքներում էին գտնվում խաղողի այգիները, ոչ ոք չէր համարձակվում խաղողը հավաքել։ Վանահոր բանագնացը ուշացումով է տեղ հասել, և խաղողը արդեն սկսել էր փտել։ Այնուամենայնիվ, որոշվում է խաղողը հավաքել, որ գոնե մի քիչ գինի պատրաստեն։

Արդյունքը եղել է մի յուրահատուկ խմիչքի հայտնագործությունը, այսպես կոչված, «ուշ բերքահավաքի» գինու հայտնվելը, որը դարձել է Ռեյնի հովտի բոլոր գինիների մարգարիտը: Հետո՝ արդեն 19-րդ դարում, այդ տարածաշրջանում սկսել են նաև «սառցե գինի»-ներ արտադրել: Գերմանիայում կա 13 գինեգործական շրջան։ Դրանցից յոթը գտնվում է Ռեյնի հովտում։ Այդտեղի «հիմնական խաղողը» Ռիսլինգն է: Շատ դեպքերում Ռեյնի հովտում արտադրվում են չոր կամ կիսաչոր գինիներ, որոնք ունեն բաց ծղոտի գույն և թեթևակի թթու համ:

Ի դեպ, Ռեյնի գինիները թեթև են դարձել միայն 20-րդ դարում, մինչդեռ 19-րդ դարում գինու սիրահարները նախընտրում էին ավելի շատ հնեցված և բարձր սպիրտայնությամբ գինիներ, որոնք ունեին մուգ սաթի երանգ։ Հետաքրքիր է, որ հենց բուն Գերմանիայում Ռեյնվայն գինիներն առանձնապես հայտնի չեն: Փաստացի, արտադրված գինու 99 %-ն արտահանվում է։ Ռեյնի գինիների հիմնական սպառողների թվում են Մեծ Բրիտանիան և Ռուսաստանը։
