ԱՄՆ-ում մահացել է Հայաստանի նկարիչների միության անդամ, ՀԽՍՀ արվեստի վաստակավոր գործիչ, պրոֆեսոր, ձևավորող, նկարիչ Վլադիմիր Աթանյանը: Հայտնել է Հայաստանի նկարիչների միությունը։
Վլադիմիր Աթանյանը ծնվել է 1940 թվականին։ 1965 թվականին ավարտել է Երևանի գեղարվեստա-թատերական ինստիտուտը։ Մասնակցել է ավելի քան 180 ցուցահանդեսների Երևանում, Մոսկվայում, Ռիգայում, Սանկտ Պետերբուրգում, Կալինինգրադում։ Անհատական ցուցահանդեսներ է ունեցել Երևանում (1987), Լոս Անջելեսում (1999, 2000)։
Աշխատանքները գտնվում են Ֆրանսիայի, Իտալիայի, Հունգարիայի, Լեհաստանի, Լիբանանի, Գերմանիայի, Թունիսի, Բելգիայի և ԱՄՆ թանգարաններում։ 1992 թվականին Լոս Անջելեսում ստեղծել է «Աթանյան արվեստի կենտրոն»։
Հեղինակել է հաստոցաշինական շենքերի ներքին ձևավորումներ (խճանկարներ, խեցեգործ, հարթաքանդակներ, գոբելեններ և այլն)` Երևանի «Դվին» (1978թ., ՀՀ Պետական մրցանակ` 1979թ.), «Անի» (1986թ.) հյուրանոցներում, «Մոսկվա» կինոթատրոնում (1985-86թթ) և այլն: Գործերից են նաև` «Թարգմանչաց տոն» (որմնանկարի էսքիզ, 1982թ.), «Վարդ» (շատրվան, 1980-81թթ), «12 եղանակ» (խճանկար, 1983թ.), «Հաղթանակ» (հարթաքանդակ, 1984-85թթ, բոլորը` Երևանում) և այլն:
2015 թվականին ծննդյան 75-ամյա հոբելյանին պարգևատրվել է Սուրբ Սահակ-Սուրբ Մաշտոց մեդալով։
