Американца с российскими корнями назвали самым ценным фигуристом

Имеющий русские корни американец Илья Малинин назван самым ценным фигуристом на церемонии Международного союза конькобежцев (ISU Skating Awards) 2024 года.
На награду также претендовали американский танцевальный дуэт Мэдисон Чок / Эван Бэйтс, бельгийка Луна Хендрикс, представляющие Японию спортивная пара Рику Миура / Рюити Кихара, одиночники Сёма Уно и Каори Сакамото, француз Адам Сяо Хим Фа.
В текущем сезоне 19-летний Малинин выиграл финал Гран-при и один из его этапов (Skate America), а также чемпионат США.
В сентябре 2022 года Малинин впервые в истории чисто исполнил четверной аксель в произвольной программе на турнире U.S. International Classic, который проходил в Лейк-Плэсиде (штат Нью-Йорк, США). За исполнение этого элемента он был включен в Книгу рекордов Гиннесса.
В марте 2022 года Международный союз конькобежцев отстранил российских и белорусских атлетов от соревнований. В сезоне-2022/23 они были сосредоточены на внутренних соревнованиях (этапы Гран-при России и чемпионат страны). На заседании ISU, которое прошло в октябре 2023 года, вопрос о возвращении российских спортсменов не поднимался, несмотря на то, что был в повестке.
