ԱՄՆ-ից Հունգարիա այցելած պատվիրակության երկու սենատոր բանաձև կներկայացնեն Կոնգրեսին, որը Բուդապեշտին դատապարտում է Շվեդիայի՝ ՆԱՏՕ-ին անդամակցության ձգձգման և ժողովրդավարությունից նահանջելու համար:

Աղբյուրի փոխանցմամբ՝ բանաձևի հեղինակները նշել են, որ այն ներկայացվում է Հունգարիայի կառավարության վրա աճող ճնշումների ֆոնին՝ ՆԱՏՕ-ին Շվեդիայի անդամակցության հայտը վավերացնելու նպատակով, որը Հունգարիան հետաձգել է ավելի քան 18 ամսով։

Նոր դաշնակցի ընդունումը պահանջում է ՆԱՏՕ-ի անդամ բոլոր երկրների միաձայն համաձայնությունը, և Հունգարիան միակն է անդամ 31 երկրներից, որը չի աջակցել Շվեդիայի հայտին։

Բանաձևում սենատորները նշում են այն կարևոր դերը, որը կարող է ունենալ Հունգարիան եվրոպական և անդրատլանտյան անվտանգության մեջ, սակայն ընդգծում են նախկինում տված խոստումները չկատարելն ու չմիանալը ՆԱՏՕ-ի մյուս անդամներին՝ Շվեդիայի անդամակցությունը հաստատելու հարցում:

Բուդապեշտում ԱՄՆ դեսպանատունը ավելի վաղ հայտնել է, որ ԱՄՆ Կոնգրեսի պատվիրակությունը փետրվարի 18-ին կմեկնի Հունգարիայի մայրաքաղաք՝ քննարկելու ՆԱՏՕ-ի և Հունգարիայի միջև ռազմավարական խնդիրները:

Հունգարիայի արտգործնախարար Պետեր Սիյարտոն ամերիկացի սենատորներին խորհուրդ է տվել չփորձել ճնշում գործադրել Բուդապեշտի վրա Շվեդիայի՝ ՆԱՏՕ-ին անդամակցելու հարցում, քանի որ Հունգարիան ինքնիշխան երկիր է, նրա պատգամավորները կարևոր որոշումներ չեն կայացնում օտարերկրյա պատվիրակությունների ազդեցության տակ։
